Default Powering a V1 & Connection LE via USB

As a non-smoker, it became time to replace the car's cigarette lighter socket with a USB port or two, haven't regretted the switch for a minute. Unfortunately, the V1 power supply only uses a 12V lighter socket - and after a few searches online, there weren't any off the shelf kits to power a V1 via USB, so here's the adapter I built with some info from user 904nm and a few visits to ebay:

This is a V1 version 3.8945 and a V1 Connection LE version L1.0005 powered using a fused USB step up power supply at 12V DC.

Going to put this through a some testing and report back on the results - more soon.

How is this working? This is the same solution I'm looking for.

Why change the cigarette lighter socket with a USB port? Just get a cigarette lighter adapter so it can be still used in all the different ways.

Too bad VR doesn't make a cord like Escort does that powers the RD and has a USB port.

I need to power a V1, V1 Connect and a phone for YaV1. My car has an upper compartment in the dash with a socket, but the compartment is too small for the V1 socket adapter plus an additional USB socket adapter, thus my need for an all USB solution.

    Lots of options.

You can hard wire a set up.

You can get a cigarette adapter splitter with USB and plug it in and/or hard wire it.

I run a car dock charger for the phone wired separately and hardwired the RD. Much cleaner install and much more flexable: 2014 Mazda 3 ultimate CJR install. - Radar Detector & Laser Jammer Forum - RDForum - RadarDetectorForum

I personally own the same exact three way splitter and can vouche it's awesome for long trips though, if your going to utilize that CJR i highly recommend planning to hard wire it. The reason I say this is, it has a led lighting the lighter plug, and unless your cig plug shuts off with key, "Most cars do not" then it's going to draw constantly off your battery and you'll have to plug and unplug it which can be annoying and damage your 12VDC plug. So, if your going to go that route do what I did and hardwire it, and put it into an aux fuse so it shuts off via key off. Just my .02

Good point. Though I drive every day so it shouldent matter. That LEDs power draw would probably take weeks to do much.
