Default Thinking of removing my Veil...

After having a thin coat of Veil on my headlights for several months I'm thinking of removing it... why you ask?

1. It makes my headlights look like carp. B6 Audi headlights are very sharp looking with their clear lenses and Veil ruins that look, especially since it makes the lens look hazy.

2. It reduces the performance of my headlights.

3. I've only been lasered once since I put the Veil on, and we were in my wife's (non-Veiled) car at the time.

I may get a jammer down the road, but with laser encounters being infrequent, and usually in the city where I'm not speeding as much, I probably won't bother.

Thoughts?

I'm very, very split on this issue myself, too.

I would like to apply VEIL to my factory headlights and fogs, as I *am* a believer in the synergy of passive protection, but I'm also very concerned about output reduction and aesthetics.

I think that I can manage a relatively acceptable "install"/application in terms of cosmetics, but the concern of output degradation and color-temperature shift are rather unavoidable, and to me, somewhat unacceptable as well, both on a safety factor (a loss of 30% effective lighting with just two coats is more than significant, IMveryHO) as well as on the level of avoiding extra enforcement scrutiny (due to the distinctly "pseudo HID" color-shift, which permanently defines "Ricers" and garners such extra enforcement attention in my locale).

I've gone to the extreme of upgrading my headlamps, properly, to gain more vision (Osram Rally +65 H7 low-beams, which puts out an effective 1000+ lumens more light than my OEM H7s, and noticeably more light than Sylvania SilverStars of the same; and Toshiba 9011/HIR1 high-beams, which are unquestionably superior to standard halogens) and to increase safety.

As you can see, I'm quite split on this as well - and I've got a can of VEIL in the garage, just waiting for my decision.......

I'd never put that stuff on my car!! Maybe when they come out with a clear version, I might.

^ Results will vary, but your vehicle will inherently offer an advantage and produce synergy with this additional passive protective measure.

Things that will affect outcome include (randomly "ranked"):

- thickness/number of VEIL coating
- whether or not you "dress" the front plate and other hard-points
- encounter distance

There's probably even more "conditionals" that I'm missing. It's not a guaranty - it's just one more thing to increase your chances.

I removed my veil before winter because I needed brighter headlights...

I tried the brighter headlights that are avalible, in the end I installed high beams into my low beam socket to give me the brightness back

^ Thank you for your honest assessment and candid reply.

It looks like I may have a canister of un-opened VEIL left on the counter, in my garage.......

After two years I have removed veil from all my headlamps, lights are sooo much brighter now. Don't think I'll be buying any more soon!
