Minor Groom Lake story:

I was flying adversary F-18's and was down at Nellis to support the Air Force. They gave us the course rules brief and the guy said, "Whatever you do, don't go into the doughnut hole."

(Groom Lake's restricted airspace is in the center of the huge amount of airspace that Nellis owns for our fun & games)

Me: "What if I have an emergency? Groom Lake will be the closest divert."

Briefer: "Don't go into Groom Lake."

Me: "What if it's a really bad emergency?"

Briefer: "Don't go into Groom Lake."

Me: "What if I'm on fire and my wings are falling off?"

Briefer: "I guess it's up to you, but if you go into Groom Lake without a clearance don't expect to see daylight for quite a while."

Well I dunno, I guess you gotta make a choice between your spine (via that black and yellow handle) and your ass (via a whole hell of a lot of angry SF types)

I think the point was that the paperwork for a breach of security is so horrendous that it probably costs them more to deal with a pilot landing in the middle of their secret test than it does to scratch a Hornet off the list...

That's gotta be some amazing stuff though, flying adversary training exercises...

This forum has an odd obsession with poop.
happya$$: "Think of POP as POOP."
wanderingmind: "The RD gods are going to poop on you."
sethy: "Change that sig or ill poop on you"
kpatz: "It's a "men pooping while working" sign. "
<<JAZZY>>: "Craig Peterson is a loser that needs to be thrown off a mountain into a lake of poo!"
