Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
msw -
Question....
The LaserShield you showed in the pix -> is it treated with VEIL? or is it "out of the box?"
If the latter, I'm currently thinking that LaserShield is more than it seems - that it's actually doing more than I currently give it credit for......
I've always thought that the main effect of the LaserShield is simply that it makes the LIDAR return more "diffuse," courtesy of its finely stippled surface.
This IR shot makes me think otherwise.
If this is an "untreated" LaserShield, your pic would suggest that it is actually attenuating IR light. Right?

Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
Wow, that was a stock Laser Shield?
I had no idea it was THAT effective in IR.. Very interesting!
I guess treating it in Veil is just overkill than.. Good to know, I really didn't want to tint my plate as it would give away I have a cover.. and covers are illegal here too.. (anyone following my threads noticing a pattern? Ontario sucks!)
Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
^ +1.
Thanks, msw !
Now I really want to see what The VEIL Guy finds, through his IR gear, of a side-by-side comparison between an un-treated LaserShield, and the VEIL treated.
I honestly always thought that the way LaserShield worked was to simply diffuse the incoming LIDAR beam......
This is eye-opening, to say the least!

Covers are illegal here too in NY. I just ordered my Laser Shield, and I want to keep as low a profile as possible too..all of this is EXCELLENT info!
Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
TSi+WRX,
I will conduct such a comparison and publish the results when I get a little time to do so. OK?
Now that we have determined that Veil G4 works well against infra-red imaging used with certain new photo enforcement systems and ALPR systems, this knowledge is very relevant. We are also looking seriously at the Photo Blur in combination with Veil G4, to provide obscuring of plate viewing for both VIS and IR photo enforcement systems.
