I'm completely new here.
Just searched google and you guys came up.
Not knowing so much about detectors, I found the Whistler DE-1793 for $100.
Is it worth it?
Anything better in this price range?
I'd appreciate any help you could offer.
Thanks!

The 1793 is a decent model, and the price is about right, but check this one out before buying anything:

That's one of Whistler's new XTR series, that's their very newest ones and supposedly the XTR's have improved false alarm filtering compared to older models like the 1793. Plus, the gentleman selling in that link is the best there is to deal with. He'll stand behind his products 100%, and I speak firsthand to that.
Yes, the XTR is newer, but I can't really see how it is neccessarily better, besides improved filtering. It almost seems like a downgrade.
Not sure why it'd look like a downgrade. I can't see anything that the XTR is lacking when compared to the 1793. The 1793 is a 2+ year old model. It was one of Whistler's first attempts at a POP unit, and while i've never used one personally, most first-gen POP capable units false like mad.
The 1793 is a good unit for $100 but I would recomend one of the new XTR series instead.
The XTR series is a new unit from the ground up, new board, new antenna design and has KU dectection (on some models)
The XTR series will not false as much as the 1793 does.
I would bet Whistler will be if they have not already begun discontinuing this model.
The one thing about the 1793 it has the best warranty ( 3years) of any detector out there.
