what's your experience with laser detectors?
Im consider buying Whistler 3450 Pro, what's your experience with this laser detector?
does a laser detector really work???
thank for any answers...
Laser detectors in their current state can only give you a max of 1-2 seconds of alert time. You might get lucky if you pick up scatter and this is RD wide, although the V1 is known for picking up laser pretty good but it still wouldn't save you as most of the time, by time the RD is going off your speed is already captured by the laser. You might get lucky to pick up laser but 99% of the time I would say you wouldn't pick up a laser alert.
This isn't just on Whistlers this is RD wide. Now some RDs are better at picking up laser (top3) but like I said it would only give you a minimal amount of time if any to adjust your speed.
If you are needing laser protection go with the Blinder or Lidatek Laser jammers and some veil. RDs won't save you from laser unless you're lucky to pick up laser scatter, but they will still save you from radar traps.
Me and my buddy picked up laser scatter from a cop in a rotary. We got the laser alert and then 5 or so seconds later as we spin around the rotary, there we saw the cop standing by the side of the road with a laser gun.
We were using a PRO-58
The Veil and RD combo should buy SOME time, right? Veil is my next investment, and after that -- a bra for my car's nose. Black. Very black.
It all depends on your car and its color. For you, it might buy a couple of seconds with the black bra on. But in my case, Veil wouldnt help at all

When I drive through Ohio, I get quite some laser hits. My general experience is:
(1) On close-range encounters (i.e. when you can see the cop car easily), you're screwed. I typically get a single alert, presumably when it hits my car.
(2) On farther encounters, it's possible to pick up a few warnings on a lucky day, but don't bank on it.
Bottom line, laser is dangerous stuff to mess around with.
Check out this thread. Should tell you something about the laser detection on the Pro-73.
Again, I've seen my 1793 give me PLENTY of time to react to a laser warning, but I've also had times where I only got an alert when I received a direct hit.... so I feel substantially less confident banking on my detector alone saving me on a laser encounter.
