Default Whistler Pro vs Whistler 1793E/1783/1763/1758: Same beast?

Whistler 1793E/1783/1763/1758 seem to have same basic features, control layout and operation as Pro-58/73 series just with different bells and whistles lke compass. Do they have same internal platform and thus same detection abilities?

There has to be some difference especially since the Pro 58 and Pro 73 are not detected by VG2 whereas the others are. I would not cruise through VA or DC with a non-PRO series Whistler because you will not like the result if you are caught. Of course if and when they get spectre, everything will be detectable. In addition the VG2 maybe still used to catch truckers with radar detectors since they are illegal for them to use. Look at how far away the VG2 saw some of the Whistler detectors on the following link. It is not wise to still use a VG2 vulnerable detector since there is no need and it cannot be good to clue the officer that you have a detector. They did not report whether the Whistler automatically shutdown afterwards or not though.

A Whistler representative told me the 1773/1783/1793, Pro 58 and Pro 73 have the exact same chassis, which means the detection capability is the same for all 5 models. The 1758 and 1763 do not detect POP if I am correct. The difference is in the features as you pointed out such as compass, text display versus LED display, blue versus red display, voice or no voice, etc.. But the detection capability is the same. With that said, why would anyone buy a Pro-73 when you can pay less for a 1773 or 1783? I bought a 1783 and drove around for a week with it mounted along side my Bel 970(Vector LR). The 1783 is every bit as good as the Bel 970, they both alerted at virtually the same exact time. Any of these models by Whistler should do the job just fine, and at a fraction of the cost of the high price models from Bel, Escort and V1.

The difference between the 1700 series vs the PRO series also is the warranty on the PRO series is 2 years vs 1 year on the 1700 series.

The Pro series was created for specialty stores to have a different model and better warranty to help them seperate themselves from the Walmarts and other stores all selling the same 1700 models.

The list price between the 1773 and the pro 73 is only $20 (1773 cheaper) and the 1783 is $30 more than the PRO73.

So I really do not see where the the 1783 is cheaper than the PRO73.
Now I understand that the MSRP is crap and is just a suggested resale price but to give an example Roy sells both of these units and the pro73 is cheaper.

    About the Spectre detection distance.

That varies a lot even between same detector model but different individual units! That becouse every detector is tuned manually at the end of manufacturing line. The quality of manufacturing process makes the components behave randomly.

This feature is very well seen in Belīs remote units 815/915/975
The performance difference between separate units has been noticeable.
