Default Self CAL I think not

Arent you all glad you dont have to worry about the dreaded Self Cal on the Whistlers. I use to buy bell allot in the past I got fed up with the self cal messages. I mean I have old bells that report self cal when turn on and old whistlers that still work to this day. So go figure. Also you figure with such a high price radar detector. It wouldnt deliver such a stupid message all the time. I'm sticking with a detector that when I plug it in I know its gonna work. Plus I got A1 customer service backing me up as well.

Yes, I had Beltronics Target 550 which is the EU version of the 995 I think.
During three years this self cal was a nightmare until the other day when something went wrong whith this self cal and now the unit is dead - it gives the error message after start. Over 500 dollars wasted - as it's out of warranty - noobody can help meout - at Beltronics europe they call it: 'unrepairable'.
So fed up with self- whatever they call the fancy high tech units feature - and looking for something reliable amongst other brands.

then go whistler. Bell might be great. But their still crap in my mind. I'm sorry their is just no excuse to have a self cal message on a detector. To boot allot of times Bell just says sorry cant fix it. If you spend 400 some dollars on a detector it should be able to wipe your a s s not give you a s h i t t y self cal message. Its the ford of radar detectors. Just build it well enough to get it past the warranty after that all h e l l breaks loose.

Self-Cals arent the problem, that means the detector is fixing itself... so thats a great feature.

    Your talking about Service-Reqs.

My snoopers not high tech enough to get messages, in fact its never gone wrong in 8 years on owning it!

Good old gunn diode antenna, unlike the vco found in bel and escort.

Ever likely the spectre uses the gun antenna design...

yes the serv req. or whatever the stupid message is I dont really care. Its just total crap when you see it. Their should be no reason if the detector has been handle properly to see this message. If the detector can't take a few bumps while sitting on the clip in the car. Then it shouldn't be made for the road. These serv req can come up at any given time.

Euro550 is supposed to be the US 990i. And the 550 is its price - that is for sure
What they don't tell you when you buy Beltronics is that when something goes wrong during the so called Self calibration...it's money thrown through the window as Beltronics CANNOT repair its own product
I doubt that the self-calibration thing differs from model to model
I wish I had read some posts here before my purchase...
    Video link coming soon...
I'm trying to figure out now which brand/unit would best fit my area..
