Selling it for under that price would be selling at cost or at a loss. There is NO reason an online retailer would sell at a loss. Absolutely doesn't make business sense. So either A) they're getting the units below cost, which is probably underhanded in some way or B) they're somehow making money on the sale from a third source to cover the loss, which is DEFINITELY underhanded. Devaluing a product is not unheard of in the retail world. If someone has a vested interest in seeing, say, ACME GPS units not take up shelf space in stores (thereby freeing up space for AJAX GPS Units), then they could rig the online market for those units to make them sell crazy-cheap. That way, the ACME ones sit on the shelves in stores (since everyone is buying them online instead) and stores eventually stop carrying them as non-sellers.
It's also not unheard of for cheap online purchases to be knock-offs, bootlegs, or refurbs, allowing someone to sell them cheap and make a big profit.
Is there any way to know if a unit is refurbed etc? Because on eBay, they are selling them for RULE VIOLATION including shipping. This seems a bit low, but the ad says it is guaranteed to be a brand new, unopened/non-refurbed unit. Is there any way to verify those claims?
