    Default Just got my XTR-690

    Hi Guys

After looking around on this forum I decided to go with a 690. I drive 90 miles round trip to work every day from Rutherford to Hendersonville NC and the HP are always in the ditches along the highway. The only thing thats saved me so far is other cars being in the lead, as on certain parts of my journey, the road shoots down from a 65 to a 55 on a downhill stretch.

This is my very first detector. I didnt get it until 8pm tonight, so after looking at the instructions, mounting it etc, I didnt have much time to try it out. I did go to a abandoned parking lot to calibrate the compass on it, but as luck would have it, no cops to hit me on the way there and back  !.

Once I get used to the settings and get my camera sorted, I will be making some videos of its performance to share with you guys. Like I say, I havent actually been hit yet so cant comment on performance, but from the looks and design on the 690, it does look like a solid unit with easy to access functions.

I hope to share some positive experiences of my detector with you guys soon!

    Thanks

sounds great welcome to the whistler family.

Remember a radar detector is a tool to help detect radar, not a cop detector. So drive smart and know when and when not to speed. Watch those sweeping curves and those big hills. Instant on is deadly and no detector will save you if your the lead car. Its always best to speed with a rabbit infront of you.

    Thanks Whistlerfan.

On the way to work today I stuck to the speed limit to test my unit out, I picked up a false signal from a overtaking car on the highway but not much else for the first part of the journey. Then I got a K band signal on a hill and as I went over it, a cop was driving the opposite way. After exiting the highway, I got a few "pulse" signals which I'm guessing must be doors from the gas stations?

All in all, I was impressed with the way it picked up the cop from over the hill, but I will let you know more once I've had it a week or so.

welcome to the board Ten, I too am in NC, work in Wake Forest.
There are a few of us here in NC on this board.

I think you might be one of the first on here with the 690.

I have an XTR-560 which has a lot of great features but I hear the 690 is better.

Careful with the Video and driving!
