    Default Do any Whistlers use...

An RJ-11 Jack like the V1 and the Belscorts, I am looking at getting one for my GF, and was wondering in any of the new (or old models), run using an RJ-11 jack.

I have an old one and it runs off the circular plug-in style jack... which I really dont want (and wont buy).

Could anyone list any/all Whistler models which use RJ-11 jacks?

Not as far as I know. The Pro-73 and 78 both use the circular plug.

Why do you not like the circular jack?

Is her car already hardwired with an RJ11?

No, but mine is, and I was going to with hers too... (Really simple with RJ-11 [Telephone cord] style jacks.

The Pro 78 includes a hardwire kit that's easy to install, but if you're looking to swap RDs between cars, you're better off RJ11 probably.

Because my car, and my bike are RJ-11 'hardwired' (to work with the Top end units)... not to mention since RJ-11 jacks are telephone jacks, its much easier to work with them and get supplies for them in a timely fashion. (Which is extremely nice, and a major 'selling point', for me, for RJ-11's).

Also they lock the detector in place (as they snap in)... on my bike... if for some reason the mount fails... well with a circular jack its very likely it would simply unplug and smash to the road at 60MPH. With the RJ-11 connection, its locked in place and will be hanging by the wire. In a car its the same thing, except it likely wouldnt 'smash', it would just hit the dash rather... same point though

Also I trust the connection more (since it 'snaps' into place), though with my whistler with the circular jack, I never did have any connection issues, its still IMO is a better connection with RJ-11's.

Its just a far superior jack IMO for numerous reasons.

(The aforementioned is all my opinion I am not knocking any products that use the circular jack... its just not my style.)

Michael B... just curious, why wouldn't you guys utilize RJ-11 jacks? (I understand if you do not wish to discuss company policy/marketing/products details), I am just curious, whats the benefit of circular jack? I am assuming to keep the price down?

Cost, pcb real estate and history of our products with circular jacks.

Many of our customers are in the same boat as you in that they have our hardwire kits in their cars and wish to change units easily.

You just happen to be inthe other camp but have the same reasoning.

As stealthcb said, we do offer a hard wire kit with our Pro78. You may wish to consider one for your GF anyway. We would love to hear your comments after a purchase and review.

I understand your concerns regarding your bike
