Pro 78 vs STI vs K band IO and CO 7/4/07
Well today I ran across two different K band encounters. The first one I was stopped at a red light where i never receive any falses but all of a sudden my STI and Pro 78 briefly alert me to K band. About 40 seconds later I see a cop coming the opposite direction. The second encounter was a good one. The first alert I received is from my STI on K band. At this point I reset my odometer. About 1 second later my Pro 78 briefly alerts me to K band. Meanwhile the STI has the signal locked in at K strength of 1 while the signal is fading in and out on the Pro 78. About 7 seconds into it the Pro 78 locks on to the signal CONSISTENTLY. The road is straight with a few hills. About 1.3 miles later I see the Leo parked in the parking lot radaring oncoming traffic. i was blown away by the performance of both.
Encounter Facts:
1)Traveling about 40mph
2)Both detectors on simultaneously
3) No curves just a couple of small hills

And the STI wins one. Not bad for the 78, but 7 seconds can be significant.

happy - how far apart are your two detectors? i am going to be doing some testing this week with my V1 and was hoping to run it and the 690 at the same time. i think i can get about 4 feet between them. what are your thoughts?

No Chris the Pro 78 received the signal before that (1 second after the STI)but did not lock it in consistently until 7 seconds later. Before that it was receiving it like Instant On while the STI was receiving it like CO

Gotcha. Mis-read it the first time.
So another tie, essentially!

Yeah the Pro 78 continues to shine along with my STI. My V1 3.858 is currently in retirement.

Well, the money paid for the STI is probably worth it to someone who needs to be.......discrete.

Yeah, certainly the STI still has its unique selling point; though some other detector manufacturers should start feeling the heat ;-)
