Default 8 K/Ka and laser encounters on the way home from airport

Wow, they must be doing a 4th of july crackdown in Detroit area -- my 1793 was beeping for almost the entire route till I got off the highway! Most were constant-on K-band from MSP (which was odd for me as I usually see MSP shooting constant Ka), there was one laser around a sharp curve. No alert from the high-mounted detector, but so many brakelights suddenly going on enteirng the curve that it works better than your new-fangled LED periscope lights ;-) LOL

on the radar encounters I averaged 0.75-1 mile heads-up -- plenty of breathing room. However, on the downside I've been noticing more and more false sources on I-94 and I-75. Lots of what appear to be constant-on K-band drones.

K band drones are not considered falsing because they are valid radar sources on the same frequency as police radar for the intended purpose of slowing down traffic by using consumers with radar detectors to slow down, therefore slowing down traffic around them.

Yeah, I understand there's nothing you guys can do about it -- it's a legit source of radar and that's that.

Is it a constant on K band with the Geiger counter reading fluctuating as though it sounds like a moving target ?!?

I got something like what you had described though.

Since owning the XTR-585 and mounting above the windshield wipers (less false but good K and Ka band reception in City 2 mode), I had been receiving K band alerts as though it's a moving target but I see no cops around. I thought that was some kind of K band falsing until today, when I stopped at the light and the thing was beeping so intense and the signal strength rising that something was coming towards me. I looked side to side and the front but didn't see any cops. When I looked up at the rear view mirror, however, I saw a BMW coming to a stop on the same lane as me. On his windshield was a radar detector. So, I guess rear radar detection on my XTR-585 is very good. However, I couldn't make the make and model of his detector, so to test the theory, I switch to a slower lane and play tag with him. Sure enough. Whenever I get close to him, the signal strength would go way up. As he sped of, the signal strength goes down.
This went on for the next 10 mins or so. On the next light, I stopped right beside him and managed to get the make and model. It was a Beltronics 955.

Could a leaky detector be a source of the K band drone. Mike, any comments?!?

It's sinusoidal from like 5 to 9, seeming to get stronger closer to bridges, ranging for 3 or 4 miles. It's a consistent signal regardless of other cars on the road. I suspect it's either a drone or some sort of monitoring system.

I have not noticed a K band falsing issue when approached by a Bel 955.
I will run a test next week to see if I can duplicate the encounter you had.

    Mike,

Here's my settings for the XTR-585

Combo, City 1 mode, POP on, Voice on, SWS on, VG2 off (it's legal here in BC), battery saver off, S1 programmed to change city modes, S2 programmed for Quite mode controlled by the Intelli-cord. Detector is mounted on the center windshield just above the wipers. Vehicle is a van with a high center of gravity. The BMW was the 3 series late model I think. Please let me know what you guys found out..

    Thanks..
