Weak Ka detection
I was heading back from New Mexico over the weekend with my 78.
As soon as i hit the TEXAS state line i slowed down to the PSL 65mph at night because of Troopers hiding spot. I came up over a small hill and there was a trooper about 300-400 yards away because i recieved a Ka alert 1-2 bars and that was it. I thought he would have got my speed by then or did he? I thought the stalker 34.7 is the fastest and gives the weakest signal even on Instant on. So did i get blasted with 1-2 bars of Ka? Or one of his 2 radar's leak Ka even on standby. Even though i wasn't speeding i had my doubts cause he was in the left lane driving about 30 in radar ready mode. There is a video of the stalker on youtube
blasting people so very fast.

Was he blasting anyone else, particularly with his antenna pointed away from you? That could very well explain a brief weak alert.

Yeah, any number of things could account for it. Very possible he had a handheld on the seat, or that his forward-facing antenna was shooting and there weren't enough people ahead of him to reflect the signal back at you.

Who knows, LEO's are humans too, and they make mistakes and/or get bored. If I were playing with a radar gun I might accidently trigger it or do it for fun, not aiming at traffic or anything. Or, you might just have had a coincidentally timed, unrelated false and the officer was not running any radar at all.

Troopers carry dash mounts. I have never seen them use a hand held except Laser guns. I was thinking he could have only had his rear antenna on and turned it off cause there was no detection after
he passed. Or here is my theory they are loaded with spectre RDD'S and it was giving a Ka signal just to screw with me.

I'm thinking most likely it's a non-police falser that happened to occur around the time of seeing the cop.

It was just cows and highway. I'm positive it was not
a false. I follow troopers on the weekends just for
fun and they are very hard to detect. My best Instant
on detection save was 3-4 miles. But sometimes it
was just the 1-2 bar threat when i got right up on
him.

That doesn't make sense. If they're shooting at full strength, it should be detected at full strength, no matter the duration of the signal. Are they using that trick where they point the antenna down?

Three to four miles? Nice

3 to 4 miles is pretty hard to believe, especially from a Whistler... I still think it's a coincidentally timed false. Oh well
