Pro78 & 35.5 Ka save
Pro 78 stepped up yet again for me today... thankfullly it is always paying attention even when I'm not!!!
Driving the I-440 Outer Beltline around Raleigh, NC with a co-worker discussing a current project at work and my 78 gets a Ka alert. I hit the brakes becuase I was doing 8-10 above PSL of 60mph. My co-workers first reaction is what the hell is that noise...so I point to the Pro78 and he laughed with the comment "those things never work!" I told him to wait a few seconds, and after approximately .40 miles after a smooth left hand curve we pass a 'slicktop" Raleigh LEO in the median sitting against the barrier wall shooting IO from his rear antenna towards oncoming traffic. SAVED by the 78!!!
Raleigh PD runs 35.5 so I was very impressed!
My co-worker was shocked and I immediately asked him to clarify his last statement about detectors never working! We laughed it off and he started asking questions about radar detectors in general so I explained what had just happened and he commented that the LEO was in a good hiding spot. I told him about this forum, told him to stay away from Cobras and if he ever decided to get a detector I would be glad to help him out. I offered to let him use my 8500 and/or the 78 for a week or so before he decided to purchase.
The best part of it was when he asked if the Pro 78 was expensive...I pointed to the 78 and told him in light of the recent save and for what I paid for it, the 78 had just paid itself off!!! He thought about that for a second and realized he had never considered detector cost compared to an actual ticket...
So, with one save experience...another has been bitten by this bug!!

whistler is just awesome, i had a 1.5 mile ka alert the other day.
i am sure whistler is the best value for the price.
by the way how to tell the frequency ?? whistler doesnt provide that feature.

He probably knew in advance, either through this forum or personal observation, about what his town uses.

Great question! I have had my Escort 8500 for a few years and Spec Mode gives you the frequency. Love that feature! Too bad the 78/690 doesn't have it, on the other hand I think I would rather have a multiple threat display instead!!!

OK, i would rather have frequency display than multiple threat.... it really doesnt matter if u have 2 cops gunning u or 1 cop if it beeps the hell out i will slow down anyway.

Yeah but don't discount the sneaky LEO's that try to mask thier radar by hiding behind a speed sign, or around an interchange that gives a false alert everytime you pass it...that is where the multiple threat indications pay off.
I know one LEO that searches these types of places out with his radar detector on his time off so he can try and defeat the detector users without the V1's or 8500's when he is on duty.
Either way, I think both modes have their advantages!
Oh yeah forgot to mention, great 1.5 mile Ka detection you had!

it was nice, moreover it was kinda tough cos it was a slope and i was at the bottom when i got the first alert and i had to drive quite a while before the leo zoomed past me on the other side.
