    Default XTR-690 : Laser Falsing

I used my new XTR-690 (REV B) on the 22-mile commute home today, and it falsed 7 times on laser. During one occurrence, there were no other vehicles closer than .2 miles away. I had turned POP off as soon as I got the unit, and left it in Highway mode. What's up with that?! :?:

Ya on my way out to CO from MN (900 mi) I got about 10-15 laser falses (I stopped counting). They scarred the **** out of me!

On the way back I only got 2 tho so who knows.

I have been seeing laser alerts due to laser assisted cruise controls on some Toyota's and Lexus.

Yeah, I see that, but I get a lot of laser falses, too. Now that the RD is behind the tint strip, I'm wondering if that will change....

Whistlers seem more prone to airport type falses too... I've gotten several airport falses where I was able to safely pull over and investigate, and on my 1793SE in a matter of 30 minutes of sitting there got more laser falses than I can count, but my cobra XRS-9300 didn't make a peep. And frankly I know that my XRS-9300 is a bit more sensitive on laser than my Whistlers.

Some of the falses could have been nearby vehicles, but a couple were inexplicable...maybe the sun? I haven't noted much laser falsing from the V1 or the RX-65, or any from the Blinder M-25. I suppose I could turn off laser since I have the services of the Blinder, but I want to get scatter if possible also. Perhaps if I send it in for REV C you could take a look.

I was actually close to DFW for the first half of the trip, but it didn't seem that I had LOS to runways or towers...I'll take note if it happens well away from the airport also.

I've verified that the XTR-690 falses on laser multiple times near DFW International, where the V1 and the Bel RX-65 are silent. The V1 is supposed to be the king of laser sensitivity, I wonder what sort of processing prevents it (and the RX-65 for that matter) from sounding off in this area...?

I've been told by Whistler CS that Whistlers basically go off at any pulse rate of laser, rather than having a whitelist of "valid" pulse rates. This could explain it.

Also, it's debated here what exactly at an airport causes laser falsing. Some say LIDAR wind-shear measurement systems, and others say it's the 220kW airport radar overloading the detector.

The only time I ever got a laser false I was at the top of an overpass that's next to the end of an AFB runway. But I drive the same route every day and have done so with 3 detectors. Only once (with the PNI of all things) did I get a false next to that area. And I drive near 3 civilian airports on my commute of various sizes-same thing.
