    Default Mysterious Radar Guns

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and not sure if this has been discussed ops: . I recently purchased my first RD - the PRO 78. While driving on freeways in the San Jose area, I've been getting K and Ka but can't see an LEOs and it's been driving me a little crazy :? . It wasn't until today that I figured out what's happening.

I'm sitting in traffic and I start getting a K band alert. With a lot of time to look around, I see what I think is a radar gun on a light pole, about 30 feet in the air, with a solar panel feeding it power . I'm not sure, but I think this is how the local news determines the traffic speed for TV. Driving about 3 miles down the freeway, I get another alert. Sure enough, another radar gun mounted on a light pole. All in all, I counted five of them on my way home - they are all over the place . Is this a common problem? Besides buying an Escort 9500i, is there anything that will help?

Yes, this is a pretty general problem. At least be lucky you don't have stalker 34.7 Ka band variants of this.

I doubt even a 9500i is a good solution for this... do you really want to be locking out K-band on 1-mile intervals?

Agreed. Bogey count, reliable band ID and very linearly accurate ramp-up are the best tools against this.

The 9500i is the perfect solution for this, since the CHP uses nothing but Stalker 34.7Ka and laser. Encounters with city LEOs on California highways while not out of the question, is extremely rare. I lock them all out on my 9500i. Just so you know, these K band radar units are easy to distinguish from everything else since they all have the exact same frequency.

V1Dave has a picture of one of these as his avatar.

Does the 8500i let you know when your driving in an area that's locked out? From what I've read, you could enter an area that's locked out and new signal, from a LEO, would not give you an alert if it's the same frequency. An unlikely coincidence, but possible...

Yes, there is a spinning satellite icon on the display if it is receiving a locked out signal.
