My first post. I haven't had a radar detector since the bel I bought in 92 and used up to 95 or so, so I need a crash course.
I'm doing a road trip from Mn to Reno NV, and I picked up the Pro 78 Rev C. I wanted a 9500i but since I'm moving to reno I wanted to keep the costs low and everything I read about various detectors points to this one as the one for me for now, and will become my wife's later on as its known to be quiet and reliable.
I get the RD tomorrow (thurs) and I hit the road Monday so I don't have time to fart around practicing with the settings... from what I read NV is loaded with patrols. From the speed trap websites, it seems MN has more recorded speed traps than NV so I don't know if its true. I don't know what types of radar/lidar I will run into. I know in MN they are pretty evil about it.. tripod mounted devices with 5-8 cop cars lined up ready to tag you and they have pylons leading the guilty into ticket processing zones like it was a drive through McD's.
What are the settings you recommend both for the long interstate drive and then for intown reno driving?
I'm not in a fast car, but its bright paint and definitely looks like it deserves a few tickets. I just want to minimize the risk of getting busted even if its mildly speeding.
There was a web page review that covered recommended setting I saw a couple months ago but I can't find it now. I recall citymode was recommended On and Pop set to Off even if youre on the interstates as the article pointed out it goes against logic but City works best. Unless I'm confused with another radar detector I was contemplating?!?
Because my car is a convertable I would like to mount it low... is there really that much difference in mounting low? I have high wipers so looks like the best mount is on the drivers side of the windshield about 8" from the pillar. I'm also paranoid that with it up high its saying "ticket me, I speed all the time, that is why I have a RD".
Wish this thing came in red or amber. all my dash is amber/red.
