Replacing a XTR 560 with a XTR 690 or Pro 78

Hi everyone I need your help. My XTR 560 was recently stolen so i am now considering replacing it with the XTR 690 or Pro 78. I have a couple of questions though. I looked around the forums and it seems that the performance is comparable between both units and better then the XTR 560 in the KA band. However I live in NJ where i believe X-band is still king. Are the new units as good as the 560 in detecting X-band? Also one of my favorite features was the ability to keep the backlight of the screen off until an alert was sounded then the screen would light up bright. I believe the setting was called OFF-BRT. I have looked at the new manuals and have not seen this option(just the reverse is listed BRT-OFF). Can anyone confirm this can me done with the 690 or 78? Thanks for all your help.

You might want to wait for the XTR-695 to be released, since it will be Whistler's latest and greatest. It will have some new extremely useful features. However, I'm not sure if the 695 will have the dim option you are looking for or not. I'm sure Michael B would know.

The XTR-695 will also have the same backlight options plus a bonus.

The X band sensitivity is a bit lower in the 690 and Pro78 as the main focus was to increase Ka.

Having said that, the X band is still very good.

Thanks for the info... I can not wait for the XTR 695 as i an constantly traveling up and down the new jersey turnpike and need to replace the stolen 560 immediately. It looks like the XTR 690 would be my best choice at this point. Just to confirm...the Pro 78 does not have this OFF-BRT feature?

As Mike B. stated the X-band has been turned down a notch and being in NC where it is still used pretty heavily I would prefer a little more sensitivity. Trust me X-band detection is still good on the Pro-78 and has always given me plenty of warning- it's just a matter of me wanting a little extra!! :wink:

Since the main focus for the 690/78 was on Ka increases...I'll be more than happy to settle on the x-band decrease for the the great Ka performance I have experienced!!

You would be well suited with either the 690 or 78!

-Pro-78 does not have the OFF/BRT mode...just Dark mode.
