Default Difference Pro 78 and XTR 690

I have read stuff about it....the XTR has the compass...and the 78 has the LED...

    Is that all the difference?

The XTR-690 has the blue LCD display while the Pro 78 has a blue LED display (this is the better one).

In addition the XTR-690 has voltage meter, and the Pro 78 has an auto-dim feature.

    Umm...

The xtr sounds more appealing...because it has the voltage meter....and the compass

but the pro has the led (which looks nicer)...and the auto dim....

    um.....i don't know which one to choose....sigh..

do they both has the SWS? .... how about the quiet mode...auto quiet...

You don't need SWS. It sounds like a nice feature but its hardly deployed anywhere. In 6 yrs of having SWS capable RDs, I've had one or two alerts, and one of them was alerting me to the thick fog my eyes could already see.

Haha well that's not something we can help you decide.... Ultimately it's up to you. If you do a lot of bright sunlight driving, the Pro-78's screen is a HUGE help, but if your car doesn't already have a compass or a voltage meter, those are convenient features.

In terms of all other functionality (SWS, POP, voice alerts, performance, software configuration options, and so on), they are identical units.

    (1) Change screen color during alerts. Purely extra.

    (2) Displays numeric frequency of Ka band for 34.7, 35.5, 33.8, and some other Ka frequencies too. In effect, it breaks Ka down to more separate bands. This could be helpful in identifying the kind of police (i.e. if a certain PD ONLY runs 34.7 and you get a 34.7 alert, it may be more serious). Kind of a luxury, but nontheless quite useful.

    (3) Displays frequency (pulse rate) of laser guns, PLUS allows you to lock out an alerting frequency. This can help you exclude certain common laser falses with the push of a button. This is a really neat feature and an industry FIRST.

    (4) Modest improvements in sensitivity... this is probably minor also, certainly this won't be the performance difference to make or break a decision!

Everything you said hits the nail directly on the head.
