Well, I have my Pro 78 mounted in different vehicles at different times. This time I had it mounted high in a Chevy Venture Mini Van. This vehicle also classifies as a "bad" windshield for RDs, distance wise and sensitivity, and I can vouch for that as I have compared it with my Grand Am.
Anyways, I was in the mini van and we pulled out of a Parking lot, and i get a Ka band alert at about 1-2. So we are traveling down the road, there is NO Ka band interface here, but the level stays at 1-2 and maybe 3 for around 10 seconds, so I knew he had to be behind us or traveling with us. When i looked behind (this is a 2 land road), there were two Big Rigs (one in each lane) doing the PSL So i figured that he was behind him.
So we are still getting the alert at 1-3 level for about a mile, then we turn into another parking lot. As the trucks pass us, i see him behind them but he turns into another parking lot before he passes me.
I thought that was GREAT read detection from the Pro 78, due to it not having a read antenna and the cop being behind two Big Rigs with trailers. It DID have a clear view of the front and read windshield however.
I think radar has to bounce into the RD to be picked up right? Like if a cop is behind you, doesn't the radar reflect off of objects in front of you and into the RD front antenna? I guess it could also reflect off of your own windshield as he shines it through your read windshield, then bounces off the front one and into the radar detector.
All in all, i thought it was great read detection, especially for Ka + 2 full loaded Big Rigs blocking its path. The Pro 78 seems to be the best buy for the price. (almost a steal!)
Another Great story about the pro 78!
