    Smile New Pro-78 Owner Questions

I just received my pro-78 in the mail (ordered from Amazon). In fact this is my first RD so I'm pretty excited. I have some basic noob questions:

    • I noticed some people mount their RD up high close to the rear-view mirror. Friends tell me to mount it smack dab in the middle of the windshield. I prefer up but how does this affect performance? Doesn't this affect rear detection?
    • Buy using a RD am I making myself a target for 'special treatment' by LEO. In general I don't really speed more than the average joe. This RD is more to satisfy my geekness than to let me break the law. Looks like I may be setting myself up for more attention than usual?
    • How does the 78 treat multiple signals? For example, if I'm getting my usual X-band false signal and suddenly get hit by some real LEO Ka radar will the 78 switch and show me the Ka hit? The manual only talks about laser>radar>safety priority.

    Thanks!!

monting high is a good idea. rear performance doesnt diminish cos only v1 has rear radar antenna all others catch reflections from the front.

ka has highest priority, ka will override any other band u are getting.

I personally prefer mounting a Pro78 up fairly high and out of the way since the Pro78 has a mostly downward flared radar horn. Thus the Pro78 is one of the more ideal radar detectors to mount up high.

Some LEOs couldn't care less if you are using a RD, but most LEOs hate radar detectors.

The Pro78 actually alerts to whichever radar band signal has the stronger signal strength. The exception is laser which always has priority over any radar alert. Thus the Pro78 can be detecting a very distant Ka band radar source, yet if you encounter a much closer K band radar source from a LEO, then the Pro78 will alert to the K band LEO radar source since its signal intensity is obviously a much greater present threat.

Mounting up high is done by most on here. It solves a couple of problems. First your detector will maybe stay outta direct sun a bit more, aiding its longevity. Second, you'll usually get better detection. Third, it will be a tad more hidden from LEOs.

BTW, I had similar thoughts when I got back into detectors about a year ago. More geek factor than anything. However, once I finally got a good detector in my 955, I did get a bit more confident in speeding and had to reign myself in this spring when gas starting shooting up.

You won't disappointed with your Pro78, it's a great detector for the price.
