I just bought an XTR-695 and was wondering where to place it on my windshield. I've watched some videos on YouTube and everyone mostly has theirs mounted up high. I live in Citrus County, FL and will be doing maybe 50/50 city/highway driving. I have no laser jammer, only this radar detector. What would be the best mounting option for me?
age old question. Most people that mount low do it for laser scatter, but I figure if you don't have a jammer you're gonna get tagged anyways, I'd mount high as it gives you best radar reception.

I've seen the question before and am only asking because I'm seeing different opinions. This makes sense to me though, thank you.
High no question about it. The people that mount their RD's low in hopes of picking up laser better are sick since depending on an RD to protect you from laser would be like using a bandage to protect you from getting a girl pregnant

Personally with no jammer, I would mount low. If you get an alert from far away enough, you may be able to exit / get off the road you are on and lie low.
My Pro 78 has saved me a laser ticket like this....
A mid mounting position will work too if you have a smaller car, but if your car is high up, mount low.
My opinion differs from others, and is influenced by the threats in my specific location.

I have an 03 Nissan Maxima. I'm not sure what they use around me so I'm thinking of mounting it high for a couple of weeks to see what I pick up most. Would there really be a noticeable difference between mounting it high or low for radar?
I have tried my 695 in both the high mounted and the low mounted positions. I don't see a measurable difference in performance for radar. I find it is slightly better in laser alerting in the lower position however. If I were to put a numerical value on slightly better, it would be ~5%.

Ah, thank you; this is what I was looking for. So you personally keep yours mounted low I am assuming?
