Default Will not pick up State Troopers

I've been commuting to school (50 min drive) for 2 months now and I see about 1-4 state troopers per day parked in the middle of the highway in various locations (on the dirt) and my radar detector never goes off.

Actually, ONCE it did blip Ka for a second or 2 as I drove by. I've passed probably close to 40-50 state troopers now. I have an XTR-690 Rev C.

Luckily I have memorized where the gaps are now that they park at, but is this just a case of Instant On? Or are they using something that it can't pick up? What are the state troopers using, period? I never have a problem usually on the local roads with the county LEOs.

Also, the past few days I have been running with POP ON, is this good or bad for this type of scenario? I've heard POP ON can decrease sensitivity to all band ranges. So is there any benefit to having POP turned ON? I would think it would increase sensitivity since it would pick up short bursts of frequencies right?

    Thanks for info in advanced.

keep pop off on revc fro better ka performance.

not all cops use radar ... they may be doing selective laser.

i/o maybe , even there if they are selective u cant do much... be attentive to any small ka blip to save urself from i/o.

If they're parked perpindicular to the highway, it's almost assuredly laser.

    Yeah they are perpendicular.

    Okay, so it's laser.

What should I do about POP? I have rev c. Should I turn it on or off? and why?

Most of the people on this forum leave their POP off. I leave it on just in case. Heck, I had a 34.7 Ka I/O save today.

I'm glad that you had your 34.7(Stalker) save. However POP will only be at 33.8(MPH Industries Ka) or in a rare instance(MPH K-band ie Z-series guns).

Forgive me for sounding noobish, but you are saying that what I encountered wasn't instant on? Do you think he may have just turned his radar on right then or something?

I know this has probably been debated 1000 times but i can't find it using the search tool.

So there is really no use for POP being turned ON because of the facts:

    1) It decreases Ka band performance

    2) It isn't viable in court

    3) Does not help detect Instant-On.

    Those 3 are correct?

So are there any advantages to POP being ON?
