Default I thought they'd be out patrolling on black Friday

I stayed the night in Charlotte, NC for Thanksgiving and came back home to SC fairly early this morning...sometime around 7-7:30 a.m. I thought the LEO's might be out in force on a day after a holiday, although I did see one person pulled over yesterday on my way to Charlotte. That's gotta stink pretty bad, getting a citation on Thanksgiving...

Anyhow, I was on my way home, southbound on I-77 when way off in the distance, I saw flashers on the other side of the road. My RD stayed silent as I approached, and as I got even closer, I saw not only one LEO with a car pulled over, but a Motorcycle cop with a second car pulled over not more than 50 feet ahead of his colleague staying warm in the patrol car.

I thought "Hmmmm....with two people pulled over so close to one another, and the fact that one is on a bike in weather that isn't quite biking friendly, maybe they have a sting going on up ahead..."

Not more than 10 seconds later, my XTR 695 chirped and I glanced down and saw 35.5 in the display. I normally do but 5 mph over the speed limit so rarely do I even click off cruise control when my detector alerts...I oughtta watch that a little more carefully, though, because I was doing about 8 mph over this time and traffic was light.

I scanned the road ahead for the LEO, but couldn't see any vehicles on the shoulders ahead of me at all. I was on a long straightaway and could not understand where the alert was coming from. The alert stayed at a constant 3 bars for some time, and I thought maybe the cement walls dividing the expressway might be keeping me from getting a full alert from a LEO traveling towards me on the other side of the road. These walls are fairly high; you cannot see over them sitting in your car. The only reason why I saw the flashers earlier on is because I was at the top of a hill traveling downward.

Then out of the corner of my eye, I saw something move just ahead which looked like someone's head barely above the wall. As I passed by, I glanced over and in a small opening between these cement barriers was a motorcycle cop keeping watch on the traffic traveling my way. You could only see him once you passed him and looked in your mirror. He had only his helmet and the radar gun pointing over the wall, nothing else was exposed. I think he was running CO since he was so well hidden and the alert never did go away until after I passed him. I wish I would have measured the distance between the first alert and where I found him hiding...but I didn't. I do have to say, though, I really, really, like the band identification. I have both the pro-78 and the XTR-695 and have a lot of confidence in both, but seeing and knowing the band frequency and confirming the alert is a LEO sure does make it easier to make the decision not to throttle up at that given moment. I have not seen anything else but 35.5 here on the border of NC/SC, so when that Ka does chirp with the 35.5 in the display, I take notice immediately.

Anyhow, 8 mph over didn't get his attention, but I am certain within a few minutes after I passed him someone would have been traveling at a rate of speed more interesting than what I was doing. There were a few people who passed me that were in more of a hurry than I was this morning and I'm sure just sitting on a motorcycle would get boring and chilly before too long and he'd look for an excuse to move out.

    Safe travels all...

Very nice! Me and my wife will be headed back home to Louisiana from the Shelby, NC area tomorrow. I'll be doing most of the driving back but will be keeping it fairly close to the PSL as I am assuming they will be out in force this weekend with everyone traveling home from the thanksgiving holiday. Not worried so much about radar as I am laser

10 over on the interstate and most highways (4 laned roads) will not get you a ticket. You should never get a ticket at 8 over, especially on the highway.

Thats a tricky spot I wish you would have put that location on trapster.

Well they are out near Anderson SC tonight. I passed 4 on the way home from the golf course all with customers on running CO Ka. Can't wait for the trip home Sunday it should be full of video highlights.

That location would be a good one to post on Trapster.

Texas DPS will pull you over for 2-5 mph over PSL in some parts I was in defensive driving years ago and there were tickets for 2-6 over 70 on hwy 84 and I-20.

State troopers and local cops were busy on I-75 today while was driving home late this afternoon. Still, what surprised me more than anything was that traffic this year seemed to be considerably lighter compared to last year even though has prices are way down. It looks like the recession is really hitting home.

Anyway, around 5pm I got back to my home town and was sitting at a traffic light. The light turned green, I proceeded through the intersection, and then a few seconds later I see blue lights in my rear view mirror. It turns out that the county sheriff's deputy was pulling over the car which was right behind me. Curiosity got the better of me and I pulled into a parking lot on the other side of the road. The deputy had pulled over a car with two Mexicans in it since the car had no plates!

Hmm...Driving around in a car with no plates on the day after Thanksgiving. Not too bright in my opinion.

The funny thing is that I think that they were on the way to the beer store. They made it to within 500 feet of their destination!

We have a university campus close by and the campus police (20 ford explorers) are a branch of the county sheriffs and frequently patrol the roads leading into campus. They'll hand out 2mph tickets and they're worth a few points in Michigan, too. Fortunately, they run CO 34.7 and even a Cobra alerts in plenty of time.

Chrysler also donated a fleet of Chargers to the Auburn Hills PD and they seem bored out of their minds. However, they run IO 34.7 and 35.5 very selectively and it can be pretty deadly. Poor saps get off I-75 and barrel through these wide 4-lane streets 15mph over the limit. Don't even know what hit em

Hmm...If we bail out the auto industries then they should be forbidden from donating cars to police departments! Just a thought, and hope that this isn't interpreted as being a "political" post. It just makes sense since it will be our taxxxxxxxxxxed dollars at work!
