this topic involves Stalker2 radar, so pls. go to this link for more info on its specs:
Waiting for the new PRO series !!!
nice to meet you. I am Stan and I just got registered in this very very cool and useful forum.
I got a speeding ticket on Friday last week and since then I am really interested in ways to obstruct justice busting me speeding. Before that I had NO IDEA what a radar detector is. But right now after 2 days of reading I may be right next to some of the really knowledgeable guys.
I am aware that this post may have a better place in the forum, but I just registered and would like to post something interesting.
I am from/live in Sofia, Bulgaria -> in Europe and we have only one kind of police radar here. Traffic Radar 4, which uses X-band.
I would like you to take a look and compare it to the much dreaded Stalker 2 radar that is described above.
OK, there it is:
Traffic Radar TR4
an authentic Doppler radar with speed selection - measures the speed of the fastest vehicle.
effective neutralizing of the radar detectors.
24-columns dot matrix printer (optional).
two modes of speed measurement - continuous and single shot.
two liquid crystal displays with automatic lighting:
basic - indicates date, hour and minute of the current time; mode; range; established speed limit; measured speed; registered speed limit violations; digit height 5 mm
additional - indicates measured speed; digit height 13 mm.
remote control for the most important functions through a radio channel.
power supply - from 11 to 18 V by means of a 3 m cable from the lighter of the vehicle.
operating current - up to 0.5 A for the continuous mode and up to 0.3 A for the single shot mode.
temperature range and humidity stability - from -10° C to 50°C, relative humidity up to 95% at 30° C.
construction - single unit (without the printer), dimensions 130 x 100 x 220 mm; dimensions of the printer: 130 x 100 x 90 mm.
easy and fast attachment by means of a magnetic console to the roof of the vehicle or by means of a bracket feature to the window.
easy control of the functions: 4 buttons on the front panel or 3 buttons on the remote control unit.
operating frequency - 10,525 GHz.
microwave source - 15 mW Gunn effect diode.
receiver - low noise Schottky barrier diode.
antenna - compensated horn, beam width 15° (@ 3 dB) and low level side lobes.
range - for cars - typically 600 m.
measures speeds from 36 km/h to 210 km/h, accuracy - ± 1 km/h.
digitally controlled filter for selection of the fastest vehicle.
speed resolution increasing gradually from 4 km/h to 9 km/h for speeds from 36 km/h to 150 km/h and 18 km/h for speeds from 150 km/h to 210 km/h.
automatic registering and logging of the speed violation; memory size - 85 records.
duration of the microwave pulse for the single shot mode - typically 0.3 s.
possibilities for connection of a video camera and other devices by means of serial interface
Can you compare it to your Stalker 2, guys.
I see some really bad stuff for us, fellow drivers in Bulgaria in this radar. See power, see angle...(10mph=16km/h...10km/h=6mph).
Single shot means I/O for me...
It is X-band, which...I don't know - you SHOULD BE HAPPY that X-band is coming out of use for you in the USA, because it makes it even more difficult to discern between false and real alarms by X-band. Which is not an issue for Ka-band - it is always (or in 99%) the cops. Ka-band is not used in Bulgaria.
What do you think?
I was also going to get a Cobra...it is SOOOOOOO HEAVILY marketed in Bulgaria and in whole Europe, it's just scary...Until I read some reviews like that of speed zones and radartest.com and found out what a huge mistake I was going to do.
Ok, I have turned to Whistler XTR-695 as my product of choice and consider buying it. Too bad it doesn't have Ku-band, used in some countries in Europe...but still not a big issue. Also, it is almost half the price of Valentine, Bel and Escort. And I will not make much use of the extended features of V1, Bel and Escort. Or am I wrong?
So, what I will be handling here:
1) X-band VERY good (in my opinion) radar guns
2) Some (but few, mostly in-town) stationary cameras...I believe K- or Ka-band
3) In the future (hopefully distant!) the European Ku-band
Sofia is almost 2 mill. people highly urbanized area. So false alarm selectivity is highly valued. We have 50km/h city, 90km/h rural, 130km/h highway PSL.
Which is 31mph/56mph/81mph respectively.
I got a heavy ticket in the city at night, and with exception of only two in-town avenues, every single avenue has 31mph speed limit!!!!! So my biggest concern is CITY, then rural, highway is not much of a trouble, since I don't like driving very fast, but 31mph - this is killing me!!!
So what do you think?
-about our X-guns
-my other considerations - give me some advice.
I would really, really APPRECIATE your comments, guys!
