I know the XTR690, Pro 78 & XTR695 offer excellent value for the money, probably the best value around currently (I own a 695). However, it seems the higher end detectors from Bel/Escort offer better performance in some situations, as they should given their higher price.
The XTR695 sells for $150-$170 street price, while the Bel RX65 sells for a street price of between $260-$320. It seems there would be an opening for Whistler to sell a detector in the $200-@225 street price range, if they could offer improved performance over the 695 at that price. Now, that may be a big 'if' given patent issues that could arise, R&D costs, etc. However, Whistler has done an excellent job in squeezing out maximum performance at a given price level, and it would be interesting to see what they could do (and I'm assuming they could be working on something at this moment).
Similarly, it would be fun to see what Whistler could offer in a GPS model. If they could offer something about $75-$100 less (in street price) than the Bel GX65 & Escort 9500 series then I'm sure they'd have buyers lined up.
Will we see a higher end Whistler in the near future?
