I was curious about why all Whistlers false on Ka when they are all close and i got a response from Mike B.
Jag42, I have not yet watched the video however to answer your guestion regarding the setting off of detectors when close is because when our units are turned n, they are not sweeping until the end of the start up routine. During the start up routine they are CW at a frequency in the 11GHz range. The 3rd harmonic of this is in the Ka band. This lasts for several seconds and that is why Filter 2 cannot ignore it. This was done as a a crude way of allowing the consumer to test his or her unit in the field if they had more than one whistler product. Many times we are asked, "how do I know if my detector is working" and we tell the consumer to find a store with a door opener to test X or K but there are no Ka sources other than police. This CW feature during turn on allows you to find a buddy with a whistler detector to assist you in testing for Ka band reception.
