when it comes to off axis or around a corner, 35.5 is usually always a close call for my 690 rev C... that seem to be how it is for everyone? just looking for a couple comments on your experiences with anything other than a straight shot from 35.5

35.5 Ka is very hard to detect ! The microwave beam is very narrow and is hard to see for a detector. Everyone has this issue. I have had some detections poor as 200-300 feet with C/O radar. Not only 35.5 is difficult. watch out for the new Stalker II low powered ka 34.7 radar gun. Cobra can't even see 35.5 Ka radar
The main reason I purchased a XTR 695 was to ID the band of radar that was being used in my area. I already owned a Pro 78 before I purchased the 695, but found it gave me minimal warning at times with Ka alerts. When I purchased the XTR 695, I found all the LEO's in my area were using Ka 35.5 band....which confirmed how difficult it was to detect....especially off axis. What little experience I have had with 34.7 band detection showed the 34.7 was a LOT easier to detect off axis than 35.5.
thanks for the reply's. I shifted my detector a little bit and made it more level.... i'm now receiving false alerts sooner than i was so maybe that will help me out some. I'm looking at getting the 695 but for now mine will do just fine
Same with my Pro78 or with any of my Bel/Escort dash mount radar detectors. It really depends on the specific 35.5 radar gun, but some models do seem to be really hard to detect unless they are pointed towards your car. This is why I hate 35.5 radar guns! Most of the time I never have a really good idea how close or far away it is. Far worse is trying to detect 35.5 with most Cobra models although their latest antenna platform shows more promise.
35.5 detection capabilities seem to be where the largest gap exists between the top dogs and the budget friendly RDs. The LEOs in the town between myself and the freeway use nothing but Kustom Golden Eagle 35.5. Without excellent 35.5 detection, I'd be smoked.
If I had been speeding I may of gotten a ticket today. My 695 picked up Ka band really late today. I was only going 5 over but had I been going faster I could of had a ticket. The RD didn't identify the frequency either. Usually I get great range for 34.7 Ka, in fact I think I get better range range with that frequency of Ka than I do with K band. I wonder what kind of Ka the officer was running?
