Default XTR-695 detects Ka band better than K?

I've owned this detector since close to the end of October and I've noticed that I get amazing range off of 34.7 Ka band. The K band range appears to be shorter though. They might be about 1/2 mile to 3/4 of a mile away, but I've never seen a breath taking save for K band with this detector.

One example was on my way to work yesterday. I am around a curve and I get a blip of K band. I slowed down because my detector doesn't false in this area. A few seconds later I see the LEO coming around the corner in the distance. I know that was around a curve but the biggest range I've seen in a straight way is about a mile. Which is more than enough, but the best my detector has done on Ka band was about 2.5 miles.

My question is, is the XTR-695 tuned to do better with Ka band or should I be concerned about this? After all, I still have more than enough time to react to K band.

Whistler puts extra emphasis on Ka band since it can be so hard to detect and since it now is the biggest radar threat. K band sensitivity is good but not earth shattering like on a V1. As you have noticed, Whistler's K band sensitivity is quite adequate for the job.

I figured that could be the reason. I was just making sure that it was supposed to be that way. Thanks for the information.

Yes, plus they have filtering for motion detectors

I haven't been able to tell much difference between KA and K alerts but the KA is really strong and have the KA band ID. The K alerts seem to usually be much more brief and not as strong.

One thing I have noticed is that I get a lot of KA Pulse alerts - they are usually real strong, usually very brief, (although one lasted more than a minute while sitting at a red light) but I have never seen an LEO during on.

What sources cause KA Pulse false alerts?

Turn POP OFF. As for K, I donno I usually get a weak signal that ramps all the way up and then even at full ramp up there's like a 1/2 mile to 2 miles before I even see the cop.

Most of mine have been at about half a mile. This is all in the city though.

I know of 3 K band speed signs that I have tested my Pro78 and XTR695 against compared to a Bel V995 and RX65. The Pro78 and XTR695 lag the Bels by an average 4 to 5 seconds on K band at 40 to 45 miles per hour. At 45 mph travel is 66 feet per second x5 equals 330 ft. The XTR695 will react slightly faster than Pro 78. Ever encounter will be different. I have found on clear dry days no traffic on the road the difference between the Bels and Whistlers drops to a 3 second difference.
