Hey guys... I have been using filter 2 for quite a while and just changed to no filter... it may just be a coincidence but I seem to be getting a lot better detection. I realize it shouldn't make a big difference so maybe its just me...??

yeah.. so far i havent had any of the false Ka alerts... used to have filter mode on all the time. i was just wondering how big of a difference it should technically make
My 695 does pretty good in HW mode with standard filter, POP off. I havent been using Filter1 or Filter2 much at all lately. Its still pretty good at filtering out Cobras (etc).
With that config, on the wide open freeway, I have noted earlier detection to CHP 34.7, well over 2 miles with their QO/QO technique. C/O is much much farther.
I only get quick Ka falses in 2 specific spots going through Sacramento, where there are large microwave towers. I experimented with POP ON at those 2 locations, and they came up as PULSE's.
With POP OFF and Filter1 I dont get falses at either spot.
I have also noticed a slightly faster reaction with Voice Off.
Right now, I normally run:
HW Mode
Standard Filter
POP Off
X Band Off
Voice Off
I would love to turn K band off as well, but theres still several Sheriff Depts using it in my driving areas. Oh well.
FILTER mode waits for a signal to persist for ~100ms before alerting, and FILTER 2 bumps that up to 300 or so ms. So no, it's not surprising you see better detection performance and reaction speed with a lower FILTER setting.
Note that most falsing detectors are below that 100ms threshold and only certain esoteric crap detectors require the higher FILTER levels to remove.
As Mike B always says, start from FILTER and work your way up as you get falses. Don't assume you need FILTER 2.
