newer cordless whistler
I noticed that Whistler has another cordless model. It is the xtr-540. I assume this replaces the 1788. What I am wondering is - does the 540 contain the same technology as the 1788. I have never liked my 1788's performance and was hoping for a better performing cordless detector but have yet to find reviews on the 540. Anyone here have any insight. Would eventually love to see a cordless model with the newer Ka-max technology. Of course - if the detector only contains 2 batteries, it may have a duty cycle and cut down performace anyway, but the Ka-max would compensate for a duty cycle somewhat.
Thanks,
jason

Re: newer cordless whistler
The performance is better than the 1788. I'm not sure by how much. Someone did state that the detection would be on par with one of the detectors in the 500 series I believe. I'm not 100% sure of what detector they compared it to.

Whistler has several newer models of battery operating RD:
XTR-180
XTR-190
XTR-195
XTR-540
Check them out on the Whistler website.
I've never had a battery operated RD. I seems to me that they seem to cost more for what you get than a corded model. I hear that their performance is not that good but I don't know for sure.
I have no reason to get a battery operated RD so I just don't know much about them.
May I ask why you are interested in a battery operated RD?

Re: newer cordless whistler
I don't like a lot of cords in the car. I know I can hard wire a detector, but I have several cars and it is easy to move a detector and GPS from car to car. Some of my cars have cigarette lighters in weird places - It is not attached to the front of the dash (del sol and the 88 mclaren have lighters near the center console). I have noticed however that most batteries are not up to the corded ones....

Pro 78se (returned)
XTR-695
XTR-150
