    Default xtr-310

I got a new RD last week; I got me the XTR 310 and I知 happy so far with the performance of it. I upgraded from a 1730 and this unit is so much better. I have a CDL and wanted a good RD for the personal vehicle to help save me an introduction to the police; I can稚 get more than two moving violations in a year. I drive 100 miles round trip to work so I wanted something better than my older RD.

I got a good save from the 310 the other day I knew he was there before he saw me, way cool. I Just came off the down side of a bridge when he was sitting just around the curve.

I have not seen too many reviews on this unit but I got it anyways. It seems to have many descent features that I was looking for but not too expensive. I hope to turnaround and upgrade later in the year with a better unit.
Anyone have thoughts or comments on the XTR 310.
    Thanks

For a 10 over type driver I would expect this unit to perform sufficient. How much was it?

Laser is the only thing that your detector probably won't save you from. No detector is reliable protection from it. Under under speed trap info section then radar bands by town to see what is used where you drive.

I have an XTR310 that I used as a primary RD for a while after, also upgrading from a 1730 (which was actually a pretty good RD for the time - but the display was very hard to read - had colored LEDs with the band printed on the display screen - so I just memorized the band alert tones) - we must have similar tastes in RD. I found the 310 pretty good. Picked up every X band from everything though so I had to put it on City 2 which turned off X band. Found that it detected K and Ka pretty good. I really like the brilliant colored alpha-numerica display. Not a great RD, but good for the price for folks that just need a basic RD. Detects pretty good, even around curves. I still have it and use it as a backup now and then. Whistler has an XTR330 too for a bit more. Not sure of the differences in them though.

I now run an XTR-695SE after upgrading from an XTR-695. I like it. Both are very sensitive - but the SE version especially so.

I looked at the XTR-690 and Pro 78 but decided on the 695 due to the reviews of it and found they were accurate. I do like the blue display of the 78 though.

After a few weeks I find that this RD does a good job I have made two long road trips with it and it spotted several DPS and County boys with a descent amount of time to slow down if needed. I have noticed that it does false a little but I知 sure most RD will to some extent even with some adjustments to minimize the events. But all in all it did a good job working for me. I do still plan on an upgrade to a higher end unit. I would recommend this one as a good starter RD if looking. But if you do have the money you might want to go ahead and move up the line. It will save you the need to do it later.
Any other reports about the XTR 310 unit?

In my area the locals use K,KA bands mostly. no laser, league city wont pay for them yet.

All Whistler radar detectors are good.

Here's the exception: The older models are almost useless against Ka 35.5 frequency. You'll need a newer Whistler to get sufficient warnings with this type of Ka.

Offshore - I believe most of the top Whistlers run on the same technology. You might want to go to their website and check out what they have. They pretty much have their entire line on the site (including the older models which is really great) along with specs, manuals for d/l etc. I didn't see a model/feature comparison chart which in my opinion would be great. Also, I wish they would standardize the alert sounds from one model to the next. Gets confusing.

    I am kind a a Whistler fan.

I have owned the following Whistlers:"

    1730
    1734
    D130
    XTR-310
    XTR-695
    XTR-695SE

The 1730 was my first Whistler and I think a good basic detector. For me the display that consisted of colored LEDs behind a cover with the bands printed on it was hard to see. I ended up having to memorize the different alert sounds. Used it for a couple of years a while back. Now retired.

The 1734 was basically a step up from the 1730. Exterior design totally different from the 1730 Had what I considered good RADAR and LIDAR detection. This one gave me my first LIDAR save. Seemed to run very hot though. Now retired.

The D130 is a good basic detector. Sleek black design with alpha/num display. Bought it while waiting on my 695. Used it as a backup for a while and then passed it off. Now retired.
    [/SIZE]
XTR-310 - Good detector IMO. Easy to use and program. Sleek black and gray case. Colored alpha/num display that can be dimmed. Voice alerts if you want them. Blue Strobe alert LEDs (I personally don't like these and turn them off). Seems to have very good detection IMO. I really like this RD. I still use this from time to time. I understand the XTR-330 is similar but have never had one.
I really like the XTR-695. Seems to pick up all bands well. Very easily programable including screen colors. Sleek black design with dual blue strobe alerts (I personally don't like those and turn them off). I have to turn X band off in some areas. Mounted over my RVM.

XTR-695SE - just got it. very similar design to the non-SE version. Seems to be much more sensitive. So far so good - we will see.

I am considering the Pro 78 or Pro 78 SE. The 78 seems to get good reviews on here, but some of the reviews of the 78 SE are a bit concerning to me. I think I will wait a while.

My opinion is that in general Whistler makes good RD. They are reasonably priced, generally easy to use and understand, and have great customer service. But I drive sensibly, stay attentive, and use my eyes and ears. A RD is not a be all end all. On the highway, a CB is a great asset. The CB usually warns before the RD does.

I also have an Escort 9500ix. Got it for in town use. Great in town due to the red light database. Got it due to the drastic increase in r/l cameras in the area. Primary reason I got it. When they first installed them, they publicized them. Now they just keep installing them all over without any notice. They do have to have a sign at least 100 feet from the camera but some of the signs are hard to see. This is a good detector but I worry it will lock out or ignore real alerts. I always run this with another detector due to that.

I looked at others but decided on what I have
    .

A statment about the xtr310 that I found in another post. To help inform others about this RD

I also use a XTR-310. Probably one of best under $100 RD that Whistler has IMO.

Detects well, and the display is easy to see. I haven't had any laser hits with it yet but it picks up the other bands really well.
