690SE has 72 Point Digital Compass and Battery Voltage Meter, the 78SE does not.

78SE has Auto Dim display,Dash Pad and also comes with the Hard Wire Kit.

The biggest difference is the display. 78SE has the blue LED display which are much easier to see in sun light.

hey mike how does your 78 do with 35.5, I saw one video of your that was great. DO you have any other encounters with it, how does it do over the hill and around the curve.

I've only had that one 35.5Ka encounter so far. I hesitate to comment on over the hill and off-axis detections, because I have not been able to get consistent radar encounters to say for sure. Sometimes good over the hill or off-axis, sometimes not. Very puzzling and frustrating at times. One thing I've learned so far about this radar detection business is that it's very unpredictable. I have posted all of my good and the bad radar detection videos on youtube (YouTube - mikeslc). I'll try to record more whenever possible.

This is going to depend on the type of sunglasses a person has. I have prescription sunglasses that are "Blue Blockers" and make anything blue virtually unreadable. Blue blockers are very common and popular sunglasses. I can see the 690SE's red display very well with my sunglasses on in the bright daylight and I find that the red display is less distracting at night.
My SE's 35.5 performance has been excellent including one "for sure" save.

You cant go wrong with either one since the performance is the same.

Road Demon, I just got back from trying to find another 35.5Ka detection. I drove around in the same area where the 35.5Ka patrol cars were the other day. Took me a while to find one and I'm uploading it to Youtube right now. It's not a great detection by any means. It's just another example of what I see with my Pro 78se.

I never have any problems seeing the display of my 690se in sunlight(above RVM). 35.5 is extremely sensitive even if the cop is coming from behind. 34.7 seems to be good aswell as I had a great off axis save last week. K band is overkill in the city for me partly because the unit sometimes reports X as K (seems to be a glitch with the series).

well , i had a 1745 a 1773 and a pro 58 and they all did that so it seems to be a long time problem but at least it alerts instead of filtering.

Go with the Pro 78 SE or regular Pro 78. The blue display is much easier to see during the daytime and easier on the eyes at night. The hardwire kit that comes with the 78SE would win me over to it over the 690SE IMO too.
