    Default First radar detector.

I have never had a detector before and I find this topic very interesting.
I am not that aggresive of a driver and I don't need one as I mostly stay within the limits. I just find it very interesting and I am thinking of getting one just to see where radar is at.....it's like a game! I am thinking about the Whistler pro 73. I am just starting out and don't want to get crazy with it....
but then I might! Read a few good things about it....what do you think?
    Thanks

I am using a Whistler 1773 which is the same as the pro series just a different model. I do get alot of falses with the 1773 but have also got saved a few times too. You will probably get alot of falses on k and ka, but for the money it is a good detector.

Like speedqueen said, for the money it is a good unit.
The k and ka falsing seems to an issue that whistler needs to look at and address. As far as detection range for a real threat goes you will have plenty of time to slow down.

I would also suggest if you have a Radioshack by you look at the bel 795 unit as well.
I have been comparing the bel against the pro58, maybe the pro 73 does not false as much but I doubt that since the Whistler 1773 I own falses just as much.

I have been using this unit for the last few weeks and I like it very much.
The range is not quite as good as the Whistler but it does not false like the whistler does.
The display on the bel sucks but it does give you the basic information you need.

Another thing to keep in mind--the Pro-58 is the exact same detector as the Pro-73 on the inside--just has a crappy display and costs $50 less.

Do any of you guys know the range of the PRO 58's POP range on the highway is? I don't really know much about the Ka, K, and X bands all that much or when it's used. But I was thinking about buying a PRO 58.

When I tested POP on the Pro58, range seemed to be about as good the range for regular Ka...
