I haven't seen Laser alerts from other car's laser adaptive cruise control systems yet. Did you happen to see what PPS rate it was?
To tell you the truth, at the time i was in the middle of lighting up a cigarette, all i remember is hearing a strange new audio alert, glanced at the display, seen the word laser and kinda paniced then looked around instantly. It was over as quick as it started maybe a second or so. It had to be a cruise control from one of the few cars that just passed me by in the opposite lane. I was on a wide open two lane country road with freshly harvested cornfields on both sides far as the eye could see and with no LEO's in sight.
By the way FWIW, i have my 78se mounted on the dashboard.

Set the LSID to ON so you can see the PPS rate

Laser falses are rare when the Pro 78 Platform (At least in my experience).

Definitley turn on the PPS rate as Mike has stated, and learn the PPS rate of guns in your area.

I always use my whistler even without PPS rate as a determining factor of whether I am being shot or not (Depending on line of sight), as my Laser mask falses all the time.

Well taken advice Ovencleaner. I'm gonna check the laser setting and will be prepared next time.
The thing is though, to my knowledge i've never seen or have known LIDAR being used in my area. This laser alert was a complete unexpected surprise which instantly produced a reactive instant 'looking around for the LEO' mode.
The laser setting might still be in factory default which i believe is normal mode. I'll have to check the detector later to verify. Even if it was in LSID mode i don't think that would of made much difference in this case as the alert only lasted a second or so.
Which reminds me of another feature that could be implemented. If a short alert occurs and then goes away, leave that alerting display on for a couple of seconds minus the audio and periscopes to let the user sort of digest what just happened. Maybe this would automatically be done just for short alerts.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that some auto cruise controls that use laser technology also use the same P/S rate as police laser. Can't remember where i read that, sometimes i can't even remember what i had for breakfast.

Michael B, just noticed your post.
Question? Do some laser oriented auto cruise controls use the same P/S rate as police radar?

I find the Laser Assisted Cruise Controls opperating in the area of 1000Hz or so.

No idea what will be used in the future.

If you receive a PPS rate in the upper 900 it is most likely from an Airport or a LACC system.

You have 3 seconds minimum from the time the alert starts to hit the Quiet button and store it for future alerts of a similar PPS rate to be treated differently.

Wow!! thanks for the ugh 'new' info
This is what happens when one doesn't study the owner's manual!

Does this P/S lockout only apply when in LSID mode and not NORMAL laser mode?

From the Pro 78SE Owner's Manual:

    "LSID (Laser Signal IDentifier)
Identify the Laser gun’s pulse rate or PPS (Pulses Per
Second) that is transmitted by the speed laser gun.
LSID may also be used to identify other forms of laser
sources such as LACC (Laser Assisted Cruise Control)
systems found in some high end vehicles.
If the Laser PPS information displayed is due to
another source such as local airports or LACC, LSID
allows you to Lock Out this rate from giving you the
continuous audio alert during this and any new
    encounter of the same rate.
To Lock Out a PPS, press
the Quiet button during the Laser alert. This will
place an * on the screen beside the PPS rate and
Lock Out this signature ID. Any new encounter with
the same Laser Signature ID will provide the display
    information and two quick beeps.

Note: Common Laser PPS rates used in the USA are
    100 / 125 / 130 / 200 / 238 / 380Hz. Other Laser PPS
rates used outside the USA include 600Hz.

Caution: Do not lock out a PPS rate if it is close to
    known speed laser guns."

Does a factory reset erase the stored laser pps rates?

The lock out feature is only enabled when in the LSID mode.

Factory reset does not clear these stored PPS rates.

You need to enter the option mode and when you get to the LSID option, the next ones will be the stored PPS rates and you can choose to unlock them there if you wish to.
