Default Pro 78se Ka Band Quick Trigger Alert? (video)

I got a brief but strong Ka band alert about 5 to 10 seconds before I started the video recording. The Pro 78se did not show any RSID. I thought this was another UHP with his radar left on in front the Utah Department of Public Safety building at first. But there wasn't one that I could see as I drove past the building. What I did end up seeing was a motorcycle cop as I drove up the hill. Maybe he was QT?

I turned around not long after I drove past the Motorcycle Cop just in time to see him catch his prey. He pulled up next to a pick up truck and told his victim to park it for a ticket.

Even earlier this morning, I saw another speed trap nearby. I don't know if he was using radar or lidar, because I was in another car without my Pro 78se. He was parked perpendicular to the road shooting out of the driver side window.

More speed traps than usual. I wonder if they are trying to meet their monthly speeding ticket quota.

BTW, my Pro 78se DIED for like 2 minutes this morning as I put it up, plug the power cord in and performed a Factory Reset. It went DEAD just as I pressed the Menu button right after it had cycle through the start up sequence. I was like "WTF" and went in the house to grab the cigarette lighter power plug for the Pro 78se. I went back out and plug it in to another vehicle and still nothing for a minute. I tried pressing different buttons while plugging in the power cord and out of the blue it came back ALIVE. It seems to be working since.

Could it be during the Fact. Reset routine either the power or quiet button wasn't fully depressed, even temporarily? I've noticed with that combo volume/on-off switch every great once in a while i've got to play with it for a while-depressing it just right in order to power off the detector. Don't know if its a sealed switch but if not maybe some dust could of got inside of it.

You sure you didn't have it in dark mode? Send Mike B a PM.

I always make sure that the display shows "FACTORY RESET" and the two quick beeps before I let go of the buttons. It did go through the default settings during the initial test cycle. All I did was press the Menu button when it got done with the start up cycle and the display just went blank and it went silent. I have since done a few more Factory Resets, but couldn't duplicate the problem. It was a bit colder this morning, but it's above freezing in the garage. Maybe my Pro 78se doesn't like the cold? J/K

I'm pretty sure it wasn't in dark mode. It wasn't making any sound when I pressed any of the buttons. I'm going to wait and see if it'll happen again.

Your first video is very interesting it appears to be a true QT encounter but at the same time maybe the leo was using Lidar? While you were making the turn around did you get any more Ka hits?

It didn't look like a lidar gun to me as I drove past him. He held it about chest high away from the body and was lowering it down looking at the back of the gun as I drove past. The gun didn't appear to have a H.U.D. on top.

There were no more Ka alerts when I turned around, but I think he might have already put his radar gun away as he was ready to pull out (2nd video). I was trying to turn left and pull into the gas station to get behind him for a closer look, but I didn't get the chance when he pulled out.

The first video looks like a Q/T encounter to me. I had 2 of these coming across Arizona last week. I was rolling west on I-10 and got a ka2 for a split second. About a mile later I got a ka9 for about half a second as a Arizona DPS unit came into my view from behind a bush in the middle of the median. He was rolling east shooting Q/T. I had slowed to PSL after the first ka2 so I would consider it a true save. Both encounters were too short to show an ID. I was running filter mode.
