Default xtr-695 built in memory or get intellicord?

Curious on this unit.. i have a cig. lighter port that shuts off when the car does..

Will it lose all its settings when i shut off?

Or is that why there is the intellicord 403774?

Also.. is there some sort of cig. lighter cord extension to use the reg. cig. lighter port rather than hardwire..

Trying to avoid tearing up my dash.

    Thanks

    1. No, it will not lose its settings when powered off.
    2. The Intellicord is so you can access the most common functions without touching the detector. The is especially useful if you don't want a police officer to see you reaching up and changing settings when he's pulling you over or driving past.
    3. The Whistlers can use most any cigarette lighter adapter so long as the plug is the right size. I had one from Best Buy for $12 (in the auto section) that was extra long.

So do most hotwire it to be on all the time then? (to avoid losing settings)?

Does the intellicord let you move a button into a position, like... "city mode", so the next time it powers on, its in city mode? (but i'm guess it will lose any filtering settings or any settings where say x band is off)

Is it a bad idea to mount the detector at the top of the windshield near the tinting?

    Thanks again

Refere to answer #1 again. It will not lose settings with power off. You don't need to "hotwire" it.

Its functions are described on the Whistler site.

    markm75,
everything the previous posters said is true. The RD has a non-volitile (flash) memory which will remember your custom settings even when there's no power to the detector.
The intellicord has two push buttons choices at the cigar lighter socket which will allow you to change two RD settings depending on your choice without reaching for the detector buttons themselves.
The user programmable setting choices for either of the two options are:
    city, dim , power.

If the power on/off setting is chosed for one of the choices, you can power on/off the unit with the intellicord. I've got an intellicord and IMO, its well worth the extra money. You can get em a little cheaper from on-line stores rather than ordering directly from Whistler.

The RDer comes with a straight wire cigar lighter power cord.

Visit the Whistler web site and download the owner's manual, it'll answer all your questions and also has the FAQs you're lookin for.

Is it worth it to goto the refurb, but more advanced model..

The one data chart seems to say so.
