Southern Utah to San Clemente, California and back. First 40 miles road was covered with snow and ice! Truck went sideways once but I recovered it. Was only doing 50 MPH but is was really slick. Slowed down even more after that.
Started out with X on, POP off, Filter, Highway.
That lasted about 3 miles because right out of town I was getting an X alert that lasted for 2 miles before I got annoyed and shut X off. I have gotten this alert before and not sure what causes it because it is not always there. Turned X off! Briefly alerted as K and then alert ended.
Just before getting out of snow zone 34.7 KA alert. 3/10 of a mile later LEO BEHIND jack knifed truck Northbound side of freeway shooting rear radar. LEO vehicle was facing me and his radar was aimed at traffic behind him.
34.7 KA alert entering St George, UT. Didn't see LEO but I often pick up local LEO's on surface streets in that area from the freeway.
Turned POP on just before entering Nevada. Entering Mesquite KA PULSE alert. Thought it was a false as then received K alert from store off the side of freeway for 1/2 mile. Then Pro78SE switched back to KA alert and showed 33.8. Sure enough around corner and 1/2+ miles later was 2 LEO's with customer.
Just before Vegas in Moapa reservation area received 33.8 alert. 3/10 of mile and I see the LEO. There is about a 30 foot dirt mound between the N and S bound freeway lanes with a cut out that is very difficult to see because it is short and creates the illusion of the mound being continuous. LEO is backed up in the cut out against the dirt shooting forward facing 33.8 KA. Not sure if it was I/O or not. Seemed like it could have been because the alert ended shortly after I went past. Very tricky because when you see him your already going by and if you hit your brakes it is very obvious. Plus he would already have your speed.
All the way through Vegas lots of K and KA falses. Too noisy so I turned POP off again. Didn't seem to help a lot though. Still noisy. On the way back I ran Filter 2 and this cut out almost all the falses through Vegas.
Saw a couple of LEO's on freeway through Vegas in front of me. Not using radar.
Another LEO with customer just past Vegas with customer. Radar off.
Top of hill past Baker received 34.7 KA. 3/4 mile later LEO sitting at angle on right side of freeway hiding behind cut out in mountain shooting out rear window. Also, a very tricky place to hide and wouldn't see him until he saw you without an RD. Plus it blocked the radar signal well too.
K band signal accross desert for MILES from what appear to be cell phone towers? Very annoying. Didn't see any LEO's during K band alerts in this area. Was hoping I would to see if it would switch to the KA alert while K band was alerting. On the way back I turned K off to avoid these annoying alerts since I have only ever seen CHP out there and they use KA.
Just before Victorville. 34.7 KA alert. Don't see LEO. 3 miles later 34.7 again and a little bit later LEO goes by in oncoming traffic. Same LEO? Not sure but after my 8+ mile KA alert on the way home I believe it could have been.
Downhill into San Bernadino get 3/10 mile forward facing alert on LEO.
I was expecting a lot of noisy falses as I traveled in the heavily populated areas of Southern California. I-15 to 91 to 55 to I-5 southbound to San Clemente. I am still in the same mode. X on, POP off, Filter, Highway. I was amazed at how quiet the Pro78SE was through that whole area. Only received a couple KA9 alerts and very few K alerts. I thought there was something wrong with it when I didn't get any alerts for 25+ miles until I picked up a couple of LEO's running forward facing KA.
On the way back in the interest of testing I ran with X off, POP off, Highway and Filter 2.
Saw 3 CHP on hill climbing towards Victorville. All 3 had radar off. Pulled some clown over in front of me who PASSED the CHP and was driving erratically.
Just before downhill to baker I get brief 34.7 alert. About 2 miles later after rounding a few corners get another 34.7 alert. This alert ramps up very slowly all the way down the hill past Baker. I am looking behind me and way ahead because it is such a steady alert I think maybe the LEO is on the freeway traveling so I forget what my mileage was when I got the first alert. About 4 miles past Baker there are 2 CHP sitting at a vacated accident scene(glass still all over freeway but vehicles are gone) I was amazed it was at least 8 miles and probably 10+ miles from the first alert if the first alert was from the same CHP. That is the longest KA alert I have ever had.
Through Vegas this time with Filter 2 mode Pro78SE was MUCH quieter.
33.8 alert in Mesquite. I see the LEO below me way off to the side on a surface street.
Another 34.7 alert entering St George but I don't see this LEO.
Very happy with the Pro78SE. Really like the RSID feature. Blue screen is easy to see. Could be more sensitive to forward facing although it did save me on the forward facing near Moapa. It is more sensitive on forward facing than the XTR695 I have by about 2/10 of a mile. PRO78SE is Very impressive how quiet it was on California freeways even in Filter mode. I do see how other members have received a lot of falses in dense city areas. Filter 2 seemed to take care of most of that for me. The 8+ mile KA 34.7 was very impressive even though it was high open desert.
