Picked up my brand new PRO 78 SE at RatShack yesterday. Opened the box, took eveything out and surprise, surprise! The instruction are all in Russian. No joke! Go figure. Good thing the instruction are on the net as a pdf file.
I went driving very briefly on the I-95 in CT and got 2-3 false ones and then I took an exit ramp which makes you go 90 degree and as soon as I entered the exit ramp, the RD started making noise and became very persistent very quickly. To my great surprise, there was a leo parked under the overpass with a customer. The 78SE kept making noise after I passed the leo, though reducing in intensity and immediately stopped after I took a right on a small road.
My expectations were very low for the 78SE in the city, but keep in mind it is the highway portion of it that interests me. But I never expected this RD to be able to pick up a signal when I'm about 80 degree off axis from the signal.
Btw, won't be able to do much testing with the snow storm
One more thing, the RD was in default setup straight from the box. No options were modified . I think it was filter, pop on, highway, etc.
Also wanted to say, I agree that it is too soon for me to speak at length about the 78 SE, but let me say that I would definitely prefer an oversensitive RD than the opposite. I prefer to be safe than sorry.
