Default Pro 78SE: Doesn't save Dim or Dark Setting?

At first i thought it was my imagination. This is gotten annoying.

I'm already a bit unhappy with it lacking the option to just shut the back light/display off (like the 695) outside of getting alerts.

(on the 695 i had it set to be off/dark & then bright upon alert)

Sometimes pressing the power button just doesn't seem to shut it off too.

I had a forward facing Ka encounter that was decent.

    I'm just not 100% pleased w/the 78se atm.

Hmm..I have never heard of that issue. Try a factory reset

Did a factory reset & that made no difference on whether or not it saved the Dim or Dark setting.

Tried both pulling the power cord & shutting off normally.

In one instance (out of about 8) the power button was unresponsive after pushing it several times (again)

    I'm thinking of returning it.

Auto-dim feature will adjust to the light in the car. It has a light sensor in the unit. PM Mike B and he will have it back in no time. Is this feature on or off?

That probably explains that. Oh well i didn't like its inability to shut off & turn on upon alert anyways. The power button thing was also concerning. I'm thinking i'll get a 695SE.

Yeah dark mode i geuss is OK for some, but it'd be nice to have an extra option to turn on the display during an alert, call it dark mode 2. Because of the lack of a display during an alert in dark mode, i never use it myself.

If you had the autodim feature set in the menu, then when the unit is powered off, then on again, it'll revert back to autodim which disables dark mode. Disabling autodim in the settings menu, if i understand the problem correctly, woulda fixed it.

That power button is kind of fickle sometimes. Its got to be pressed just right.

When you order the 695se, get the intelli-cord also which can power the unit off with no problem, its well worth the money. Plus you have a second programmable option with the intelli-cord including toggling through dark, dim and bright modes.

At night my eyes get strained/distracted by lights inside the cab, especially if they are neon-ish in color.

    It's fine if there's a reason/alert.. but otherwise.. i want it off.

Who cares what the display says if its not alerting. Never cared about the compass on the 695 either.

I'm sure more people behind you notice if its on all the time.

Agreed! As i said earlier, i'd like a dark mode with the option of turning on the display dimly only during an alert. After the alert, it'd go dark again. Would be a semi stealth feature for night driving or even during the day for that matter.

Speaking of stealth, i have one of the two intell-cord settings enabled for power on/off. The intell-cord on/off feature comes in real handy when i get an alert and visibly spot a LEO to the side or behind. In that scenario, i quickly reach for the intelli-cord button and turn the detector off.
Great feature IMO for NOT advertising a RDer for any LEOs closely around especially if they're running CO.
