Default Question for Michael B - interesting laser false

My 78SE laser-alerted unexpectently the other day when i ran my windshield washers. Repeated it several times and the RD alerted everytime like clockwork.
Some observations from a little experimenting:
-The detector has to be directly facing the sun with the sun at just the right angle
-Turning on the wipers alone without the washer fluid will not trigger an alert
-Turning on the wipers and washer facing away from the sun will not trigger an alert

    -Apparently the combination of:
bright sun + washer fluid + wipers moving + critical sun's angle = laser alert

I'm not complaining, in fact i think its a 'feature' to test the laser detection function.
Forgot to log any laser ID info though.
    Any comments? Explanations?

Unfortunately i forgot to note the ID. When it happens again, i'll get the PPS ID.
Won't be anytime soon as the entire weekend is supposed to be a rain event.

I've had it happen with my STI before too, same exact scenario.

I'm interested in hearing what the engineer thinks. Jim or fulcrum may know about this too. My V1 has does this a grand total of one time. At first I thought it was the automatic wiper system but it hasn't done this since.

I'll test this out tomorrow during the day. I got my Pro 78 se and ill not the frequency that comes on, if anything, but as I recall in the past, there hasn't been any falses with anything when the fluid comes up...and I use it a lot because the roads in KS are covered in crap all over the place.

But I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow.

Long time no post? Welcome back?

    To the OP:

I have had the same thing happen with both a Rev. 5 X50 and the 6's...

So I think there is certainly something behind this... and it is not something isolated to just the Whistlers.

My V1 falses to laser so much... I don't pay attention anymore when I run it (which is rare)... but I might make note of this when I do use it. m

BLT, keep in mind, the RDer has to be directly facing a bright sun with the sun at some critical angle relative to the horizon coupled with the windshield washer/wiper motion.
If any one of those ingredients are missing, it probably won't happen at least in my experience. Never had it happen on a cloudy or hazy day.

In addition, because the sun's critical angle is involved, there's probably only a short time window during the day when this will occur.
The times it happened, the detector was facing the afternoon sun to the West.
