what is the best selling whistler unit of all time? my guess is the xtr140 but maybe michael B could let us know what unit it really is

I would say the Pro 78 or 690 (REV A,B,C)

If by best selling, you mean the all time best seller, my geuss would be one of the bubble-packed sub $50 Whistlers prominently hanging next to the sub $50 Cobras on the WallyWorld type racks. Just a geuss.
There's just something irresistable about a $39.98 RDer especially considering all that slick 'wowing' marketing stuff on those PITA-to-open cheap bubble packages.

But sooner or later, i think most of those bargain hunters will come to the realization of that old saying 'you get what you pay for'.

Which begs the question... has anyone tested those low end Whistlers and how crappy are they compared to Cobras?

I ran with a whistler 1732DE(30 dollars at the time.) And a Whistler XTR-105. They do very well against constant on. I did see an instant on encounter with my Dad's XTR-105 that kind of surprised me, almost 3/4 of a mile of warning against ka band. Not sure what frequency it was. Didn't have a reference detector to compare to in that encounter as it was not in my car.

Same with my XTR-330...excellent detection range and IO. I have an old 1740 and DE 1785 that I found packed away the other day. I plugged them in and they booted up fine...am tempted to take them for a spin and see how they detect...it's been a LONG time.

In general, the lower priced models have the largest volume.
