Default XTR-695 vs XTR-695SE... What am I giving up?

I think I am finally ready to move up form my old and trusty 1793SE. I haven't been following the latest too closely. I am assuming the 695SE is the top detector in Whistler's line up, but I am curious as to what the improvements are compared to the regular 695. What do I gain by picking the 695Se over the 695?

    Thanks

Screw em both and get a 690se or a pro78se. The screen goes bye bye the minute sunlight comes out. The SE will be better preformers than the older ones.

An opportunity to buy a V1 instead? hehe

But seriously, I don't think it matters much. The 695 is a very good detector on Ka-band and QT/IO....and has saved me many times. K-band is a different story, and sensitivity is lacking in any Whistler. Where are you driving, and what kinds of speeds? If you're rural and >15 over PSL you really should consider a bigger gun.

The XTR695se will be more sensitive on KA band over the XTR695 when KA max mode is enabled by about 2 db. The 695 as well as the SE has a compass. The SE model has a voltmeter. The 695 and the se version has a LCD display that can be difficult to see during the day in bright sunlight. The XTR690se has a red led display and the Pro78se has a bright blue led display. Sensitivity on all 3 SE models mentioned should be equal on all bands, it really comes down to personal preference.

the SE models also have enhanced laser sensitivity over the non se models.

Forget the 695 / 695se if its gonna be dash or mid windshield mounted. In bright sunlight the LCD dims down to nothing and makeing matters worse that shiny mirror'd display lense will reflect out any remaining semblence of display data. Wearing sunglasses is the last nail in that display's coffin. If its to be mounted high up near the visor out of direct sunlight it might be OK there but it'll still be hard to read with dark sunglasses.

My recommendation is the 78SE with its sunlight friendly bright blue digital display.

Given that you had a 1793SE, the XTR-690SE would give you the same main features (POP, Compass, Voltmeter) but the 690SE will yield you Improved Laser and Improved Ka along with a host of new features such as RSID, LSID, User Selectable Filters

    1793SE was a good detector.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I can see that any of them would be an improvement over my current setup .

Mike, you mentioned 690 and 690SE. What is different between those 2 and the 695s? I am assuming the hierarchy goes from bottom to top 690 -> 695 -> 690SE -> 695SE

The SE is an improved model over the non SE model of the same number.

The differences between the 690, 78, and 695 are features and not performance

The differences between the 690SE, 78SE, 695S are features and not performance

The differences betwen the SE and non SE ate enhancements to the SE for Laser, Ka Max, and the addition of RSID and LSID to the 690SE and 78SE

If you likes the compass and voltmeter feature of your 1793SE, you will want to get the 690SE
If you do not care about the compass or voltmeter, you will want to get the 78SE
