What the heck in the world is an "R U Alert"? It came up on my RD saying that. Nothing unusual either.

Comes on every now and then on Whistlers to remind you if you are alert. You gotta press a button within a few seconds or it'll say "get sleep dumbass".
Somewhat similar to lots of European cars that after 2 hours of driving will tell you to take a nap or something. I guess driving the Autobahn for 2 hours you might be a little tired :?
I have a whistler with this feature. I've played with it for a while, but never found it to be useful. In fact, I found reaching for the detector (especially when exausted in the first place) to be more distracting/dangerous than just driving (or preferably finding some place to get off!)
Yeah, I don't like it, gets annoying
It is a feature that you have to turn on each time you wish to use the RU alert feature.
If you do not need the feature, simply do not turn it on.
The idea of RU alert is to keep you awake and if hitting the buttons to "reset" it is a pain, then it did its job. I used it on a long 16+ hour trip to my car clubs convention and , yes it was a pain but it got me over the hump until i got my second wind. It keeps your brain going when the noDoz hasn't quite kicked in yet.
