Well, the holidays are over and my annual trek to Mich and back for the holidays has proved to me once again the XTR 695 is worthy to be leading the way when I travel. I was in the mountains of NC and had the clutch in, coasting downhill. Though the speed limit was 55 mph, just coasting down hill showed the speed limit a bit difficult to comply to. I was in the left lane still gaining speed and about ready to pass some semi trailers when 695 blurped with a 35.5 Ka band alert. I immediately downshifted and changed to the right lane. The Mercedes that was about 10 car lengths behind me quickly caught up to me just as the bend in the road showed a NC state trooper on the side of the road just waiting for the unwary. Pretty tough spot to see...and since you're traveling downhill, very easy to exceed the speed limit. The driver of the Mercedes either finally got a blip on his RD, or he had very good eyesight as his car did a nose dive to lose some of the speed he was carrying down the mountain side. He must have done a good job, because the trooper left him alone.
Anyhow, I found the RD useful twice in NC during my trip, but suprisingly quiet through Ohio. In fact, traveling through OH has convinced me they have become a lot more lenient with their speed survelience as I was passed several times by locals doing well over the PSL and the lack of any state troopers monitoring I-75 all the way from Cincy to the Mich border.
However, I did find a glitch in the XTR 695. The button that releases the RD from the window bracket disappeared! I can no longer release the RD from the bracket, and when I take the RD off the window now, I have to do so by removing it with the suction cups. Has anyone else had a situation like this occur? I certainly don't beat the unit up, I have never had a problem nor an indication that something was amiss. I didn't know this was going to be any problem until I went to take the RD off the mount and found I was unable to do so.
Safe travels all....
