695se weird laser alert?

So I was driving earlier and my detector alerted to laser, and on the display I believe it read 'Laser 990'...I wasn't under the impression that that was even an alert...I thought it was just laser pulse rates, something in the ~100-300pps...I think 990 is well beyond that...I've read the manual over again but haven't found a conclusive explanation as to what this alert meant. And it happened twice in the course of ~7 minutes, with absolutely no LEOs at either location. Could this be parking sensors of other cars? And the alert didn't sound exactly like the usual laser alert...I can't explain it, but it sounded off.

Just wondering if anyone had any idea what I'm talking about, or had it happen to them?

Now that you mention that it all seems to make sense, I recall seeing videos with other Whistler's doing similar around airports, and I even found one of your's on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDYU-...eature=related ... in the 1000's so I would assume that would be the culprit. I definitely didn't put two and two together until you mentioned it, thanks!

Airports are not the only place this can happen - it happens to me every time I drive with my XTR-690SE around a certain area where there is a lot of commercial and industrial structures around, and I caught it on this video:

This is the first time I recall this happening, but I was driving parallel to an airport for both encounters, so it most certainly is that this time, but I'll have to keep an eye out to see if it happens elsewhere. BTW, what exactly is the functionality of LSIDs in that range? Are there European guns which use those frequencies?

Yeah, I have a few videos of laser false alerts around airports. The pps rate from the airport radars do fluctuate around 900s to lower 1000 pps.

Also, something fun for you to try. Spray some windshield washers on the winshield when you are facing the afternoon sun and see what pps rate you'll get.

If I were to guess it's probably some kinda weather measuring equipment, for windspeed/shear, although that's typically what generates the falses at airports. Doesn't necessarily mean that's what it is, but, it is in the same PPS range for that also.

Obviously the first thing to do is just look at the PPS rate being displayed whenever you get a laser alert. It's a very handy feature to have in determining whether or not you really did just get hit by police lidar.
