Thumbs up Re: Cobra user switched to Whistler!

    Here's some more observations: (XTR690SE)

    1. X Band about the same as my Cobra (XRS970), not as good as my Escort (9500i).
    2. K Band better than my Cobra but not as good as my Escort.
    3. Ka Band better than my Cobra almost as good as my Escort.
    4. Laser I don't get an alert when using my Satellite Remote like I did on the Cobra and Escort. Whether that means less sensitivity on the 690SE I don't know?

Filter Modes don't have a big effect on falsing between Ka, K, X bands, helps alittle. I noticed I get maybe alittle less falsing on Ka and misidentifying K and X bands when I'm using Filter 2.

KaRSID is definitely nice! More later!

Usually it does the above when approaching from off angels or a good distance from the source.

Other than these issues, so far so good! (POP - off, Filter, SA - On, Highway, KaMaxID, LSRID)

    P.S.

My Cobra (9950) would sometimes misidentify Ka with a K Band signal too. My (970) is alot better than the 9500. I like the display better too in sunlight.
You got it. I have had several Ka band alerts to K band signals. Not sure why this should happen. Anyways, i noticed you wrote almost as good as escorts on ka band. was this mainly on-axis?

Yes, it was from an approaching PC running Ka 34.7 constant. I started to say to myself, "Dang, where is he?", it lasted that long of a duration!

Congrats on the new rd. My first radar was a Whistler several years ago. I am looking forward to you telling us the differences that you see with your new detector.

The whistlers handle on-axis well but not so well with off axis and tough terrain.

    Here's some more observations: (XTR690SE)

    1. Had a legit Ka Band source and it did not register on the KaRSID. So watch all Ka alerts!

    2. If you hit the Quiet Button or Intellicord (if you have it programmed for Quiet in menu) during an alert, it also turns the Alert Periscopes off till you hit the button again or until the end of the alert. So if you don't want to turn them off in the menu you can temporarily turn them off using the Quiet Button or Intellicord (if you have it programmed for Quiet) during an alert. This will make it less obvious at night (like if somebody's right behind you) but you won't have no sound. So an alert could sneak in on you!

    3. Still getting some Ka falses in Filter 2 mode. Probably because of Ka Max mode. I just leave it on so I don't have to change it back and forth and just watch the RSID feature. But remember what I said above about Ka! Take all Ka Alerts seriously!

    4. Dark Mode also turns Alert Periscopes off and Display too during an alert.

    More later!

    More observations on XTR690SE:

I noticed the meter and sound acts more like the old analog types (Cobra Trapshooter Pro I & II, CM Orignal Escort).

    More later!

    More XTR690SE observations:

    1. Had a good K band alert today! I was wondering where he was at (it was that long of an encounter). He was approaching and it was constant on.

    2. Dark Mode is kind of neat, just make sure you leave volume all the way up and don't hit quiet. It stays on a Dimmer setting and goes dark when an alert is given (Periscopes too).

    3. I had the Periscopes get stuck on a couple of times, just hit a button or turn unit off then on to correct.

    More Later!

What do you mean didn't register? As in no alert, or as in no specific identified band by the ID thingy? There has been a few instances where other members have had the whistler fail to alert at all.

    thanks for all the info
