What features does whistler offer on RDs that are absent from other manufacturers detectors?
For example I believe the SE series allows you to see the pulse rate of the lidar threat during alert.

Ability to lockout pulse rates, Alert Periscopes, 3 different sets of Tones, Ability to program Intellicord, Dark Mode stays dimmer then goes dark during an alert, Ka Max mode, Stay Alert feature, Goes through entire Test Sequence of Alerts and SWS messages, Ability to turn on/off Compass and radar detection modes, 3yr. warranty, I think that's it!
Stay alert is for checking to see if you have a pulse. Stay alert makes you press a button within like 3 seconds to make sure you are alert, if not, your not alert and should pull over. Anyone who can't push a button to try Stay Alert makes me wonder how they activated it in the first place.....
Stay Alert is same as Sector said. Programming the Intellicord lets you make it do different things: I have mine set to do Quiet with a short press of the button and to do Dim, Dark, & Bright with a long press of the button. Also it turns it on too no matter what you have it set to do.
Don't forget the volt meter.
Bels and Escorts have the volt meter too.
Someone mentioned recently at least one Whistler model that let you download your own alert tones into it.
On the Stay Alert feature, I read this:
I would think if you're alert enough to engage the feature that you would subsequently be alert enough to respond to it. I thought there was one detector model (maybe an old whistler) that would give you an alarm after 30 minutes or so to make sure you're awake. The Stay Alert feature is designed to test a driver's alertness. Within 30 to 60 seconds after the feature is engaged an alert is sounded; to show alertness, the driver must press the volume, city or the mute button within 3-5 seconds. If a button is pressed within 3-5 seconds, the cycle is repeated. If a button was not pressed within 3-5 seconds the unit alarms at full volume and the display shows an unique visual alert.

I used it on a long trip to a car club convention. It was like midnight or so and i was dozing off and loud music didn't help so I turned on Stay alert and every 30 to 40 or so seconds the unit beeps at you and you have like 5 seconds to press any button. If you miss it, the unit goes to full volume/full brightness and makes a gawd awefull noise! lol I few times it pissed me off that i had to press a button but it got me through it long enough to catch my second wind! Didn't think i would ever use that feature but i've done so a few time on other trips!
I like it! ;-)
The most important one: User "upgrade-ability" of their premier unit piece-by-piece (the only one that REALLY matters IMHO).
It's nice to be able to buy a main unit, then later on add a rear laser receiver, full rear assembly, and GPS module as money permits.
