I have just started a new job and am in the process of moving from SC to Miss. Fortunately, the company I'm working with is paying for my full relocation. Unfortunately, someone snatched the XTR 695 from my vehicle during this moving process. I wasn't at home to prep the car for travel from SC to Miss, but my neighbor who has been helping me with the move did write on the vehicle inspection list that there was a 'speed detector XTR 695' on the windshield. He had asked the trucker if he should remove this and put it in a more secure place, but the guy who was to move my car said "Nah, it'll be Ok there..." Yah, right.
Anyhow, when the car was delivered, that was the first thing I looked for, and lo' and behold, it was gone. I informed the delivery guy that it was missing, and he noted this on the delivery report. When the customer service folks from the moving company called to ask how the move went, I told them of the theft, and believe it or not, they cut me a check to replace it....yay!
So, I purchased a new Pro 78SE. I hadn't gotten any action at all with my older Pro 78, and had resigned myself to the fact that it doesn't seem like there is a lot of speed enforcement on the expressway I travel on to work and back. However, there are a lot of roads here with 20 mph speed limits, and it's difficult to keep a car @ 20 mph, so I'm sure my RD prove invaluable as time goes on. I had wondered if the 78 SE is more sensitive than the 78...it seemed to pick up a couple more falses than my older RD....how much better it is I found out on the very first day I had it.
I was traveling back home when I approached a very long rise in the road that leads to a bridge over the local river. I hadn't even gotten to the part where the road begins to rise when the Pro 78SE began to blip a K band alert. Since this was a new detector for me, and since I hadn't gotten alerts in this spot before, I casually thought it to be a false alarm...however, the signal grew stronger as I began to ascend the hill, but before I crested the hill, the signal stopped. Again, I thought that being high over the buildings on this bridge, I was picking up a stray false signal, though I never had gotten an alert here before.
I crested the hill and all of a sudden, got another alert. I looked to the right, and finally, at the bottom of the hill, I saw a black and white on the right shoulder monitoring for speed. The range on the first alert was amazing...at least a half a mile on the other side of a hill.
I had nothing to worry about, I was at the PSL, but I had probably 10 seconds or more to react if I had to. It certainly seems that this new RD seems to be a lot more sensitive on the K band than what I'm used to.
I'm just hoping the sensitivity shows to be much improved with the Ka max too!
Safe travels all....
